Trying a lob pass over your defender with 3 more defenders on your post. I'm sure the coaches don't want to see that, but the more stuff like that continues, it's sort-of on the coaches to correct it.

That said, they had no offense to find a good shot for a long stretch of the 3rd quarter. Gotta dribble in and pass out, but that isn't happening.

Pretty rough game for Olsen. Hate seeing that. Going to need production from her to compete.

Team left their free throw shooting at home over the Christmas break.

Absolutely awful start to the second half

Really ugly basketball right now

Lucy seems really off today
I thought Jan would stick with the best five, the four freshmen and McCabe, to start the second half. They were the ones who built the lead back and who deserved to stay on the floor. The starters seemed disinterested for the most part. It's a tough time of the season, as we all know, so no long-term concerns, but the kids deserved the bulk of the playing time today.

This team can actually be pretty good but Lordy do they need to eliminate the brain dead attempts at feeding the post. Just so many unforced turnovers.

I saw Lucy throw a pass from the top of the key, where it honestly looked like she said, what the hell let’s give it a try. Dead on to the basket, O’Grady was nearly buried under the basket, I mean, it had no chance…maybe Superman could’ve got it.

Multiple girls tried to throw passes “through” players, it’s borderline comical

Ediger is an enigma to me. In the brief time she's spent on the floor during her career, I see good feet and talent around the basket. Seems like she could play more than she does.
Agreed. I just think when we get into the meat of our conference season we will need her. Hannah and Addison will get into some foul trouble and I'd just like to see her get more than a couple minutes in a game we have in hand by the 4th quarter.

See bold - Yes she looked very average today and her passing of late has been really bad. Hopefully she is just in a slump as she needs to be the leader of this team IMO. Taking care of the ball starts with the point guard.

As a team the dismal passing needs to be addressed and corrected by coaches, really no excuse.

They all know better. Olsen should certainly know better. It's an enigma why the force-feed continues to be a such a problematic issue for the team.

Honest question...what's the strength of the current team???

Tremendously inconsistent.

I’m not really sure. With that said (and I’ve been pretty critical) they are 10-2 with close losses to top 20 teams away from home, that they could have (MSU should have) won…🤷‍♂️

Soooo, maybe it’s a positive, they haven’t played close to their best game against a better than average schedule. Hell some of these top 10 teams are still playing out of conference teams they are beating by 40 plus.

1. Great to see Guyton can manufacture her own shot.
2. She shot too much...play more point guard!

The starting lineup doesn’t have a three point threat when Kylie doesn’t look to score. It bogs down the offense. Everything flows better with Stremlow and Guyton not to mention Heiden.

What bad shit did she take? She shoots at a high %.
A good shot is one your teammates expect you to take, she did that.

Im assuming he is basing that off 4-11 & 1-6 from 3. Her & McCabe both struggled from 3 tonight. But you are right. They do have to let it fly.

Syd I think is finally rounding into shape.

4-5, 1-2, 7 RBs (3 offensive) 6 assts & 4 stls.

42 points off the bench. The freshmen contributed 35 of those.

In 15 minutes, Heiden had 9 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 blocked shots.

We go 10 deep without much, if any, drop off.

After the game Raina said these freshmen are not afraid to make mistakes. She said Stremlow was going to give her some gray hairs. [I think both those statements were meant as compliments].

I could swear there were a couple that had already given up on Syd. BAU here.

In the second half, after a Purdue turnover, she dribbled all alone to the front court and hoisted up a 3 from the top of the key which she missed. She should have taken it to the basket for an easy layup.

I don't expect her to make every shot. All of her shots were good shots if taken with less than 10 seconds left on the shot clock; I don't like any of those shots with 24 seconds remaining in the possession. Rules are a bit different for a point guard unless your name is Caitlin Clark. I really do like the way she's pushing the ball up the court. Caught a few of Jan's comments on 1040 after the game and she said something similar.

I don't think the layups sre easy for a player her height. Shooting the 3 there, up by 21, wasn't a bad decision.

Love Guyton, and she's going to be a good one, but she is still learning what she can and can't do. She's probably playing the right amount of minutes behind our AA (hm) point guard.

I think after witnessing Gabbie's back half of last season, not many were giving up on Syd, just frustrated it's taking awhile to hit her stride.

Not trying to incite you here but I think you are being little bit more fair with some off our more impetuous posters that like to “bench players“ on the message board routinely.

There are most assuredly guys that have wanted her and Kylie to play less minutes. And yes, in many cases they are the same guys who wanted Gabby benched last year for McCabe.

It was a good game, I’m glad we went. It was great to see the freshmen contribute as much as they did. Like some other posters pointed out, they brought the most energy today. The crowd is really getting behind those young ladies, especially Guyton.
It’s obviously not the same environment we’ve had the last few years where everyone is just waiting to explode after a CC 3, but it was still a good crowd, considering the opposition. I like the mixture of young and old players on this team. There will definitely be ups and downs, but I see this team having a successful season.

Definitely a pattern of turning the ball over trying to force it into the post, both bad passes and bad hands in the post at times. Over passing still an issue too. The offense is stagnant when we are locked into trying to force the post. Lucy has not been playing especially well the past couple games, bad passing, bad shooting. I think her unorthodox release helps at times but hurts at others. Still lazy pass turnovers on the perimeter and just plain awful pass turnovers. Sometimes they get into a rut where they look like they have no clue how to play and they make panicked mistakes.

There is no one this team even remotely close to cc on dishing the ball. Cc seen things so far ahead of what anyone else did and does it's amazing. This team has some openings but they are so slow and indecisive to react that it's too late when they finally decide to pass, by then it's too late and they throw into coverage and it's a to. Cc was definitely one of a kind

This is kind of an upside down team in the sense that our "veteran" starters need to start playing like our bench players. It's usually the opposite. Our starters may be wearing Iowa jerseys, but they haven't earned anything yet. Get after it.

They went away from any midrange game which was working. I think coaches wanted to pound inside but had no movement and bad angles. (As you said)

Heiden time. She's so much more athletic then AOG, and just needs more PT. She's a difference maker in the post on the glass and on defence.....

Absolutely. Heiden is just scratching the surface. She's already a difference maker on the glass and on defense. I can't remember the last time the ladies had a post defender that was capable of what she can bring. She just needs to play more, ad not pick up silly fouls of exuberance....

I agree completely. I think of playing teams like UCLA and we will need all the frontcourt players we can get. All of our bigs get their fair share of fouls...can't hurt to Ediger a few minutes.

Heiden seems to be much stronger than AOG with better hands. AOG doesn't come across of really demanding the ball in the post, more like OK if I get it or not.
