*****Indiana vs Iowa Game Thread*****

This team is free falling and an easy 6 game losing streak could very easily be in their future with the next three teams coming up on the schedule and the Iowa coach clueless how to fix anything at all

Lisa?

She's not the one who hired a coach without a true search process.
Cmon. This was all set up for Jan to take over. There was no way after 24 years and being assist HC for much of that, that she wasn't going to get her shot. They pretty much had to do that. I was fine with it, and I think most everybody was fine. Now we have the benefit of hindsight. Still she deserves 3 or 4 years to roll this thing with HER recruits. Lisa got out after CC22 and company left, and left Jan with a group of upper classman role players who had NEVER had to lead from the front and be the leaders.

Olsen, McCabe,Heiden and then two who show they have a clue that day, that’s my lineup
Agreed,.. Olsen and McCabe for sure...Hannah, then Addy and Heiden, who ever is playing the best overall. Affolter and Feurebach. This is the best, most experienced team to put on the court...they need time to play together and get their rhythm together. Stremlow and Guyten giving the above a blow as needed.

Time for experimenting with the smaller lineups and younger players is done. To inconsistent, to many turnovers.

You have to max Lucy's minutes, show that you trust her, McCade too, get them ready for the full game. They are our best options in the back court. You never know how Lucy and McCade might finish even if she has been cold shooting. Spread the minutes with Addy and Heiden if you need it, go with the more dominate player down the stretch.

It's evident that Jan doesn't know how to make the decisions that result in winning basketball. She seems like a good friend-type coach but not an actual coach coach.

They tried internal promotion thing but it backfired. Oh well. Start looking for a replacement come March/April.
Maybe. We don't know what goes no behind the scenes. We only see the program through the PR lens. She's halfway through season 1. We are yet to see if it truly backfired or not. If they can Jan in March/April all our promising freshman are going in the portal and Deal is going to be No Deal.

Ava will be a good one but she needs to be more confident with her post moves. 3;or 4 in the first half she must froze
Maybe but that double pivot roll she did, we haven't had a post since Gus, (if even her), that could do anything like that. Yes she missed the shot, but it shows her upside. Her defense is already showing up as better then anyone we've had in the post, certainly way better then AOG or even Monica...

For people to even discuss that is stupid. She's not getting run after one year. She should get 3 or probably 4 minimum to get her players, not the seniors Lisa left her with. Then you ca judge her system and recruiting, not before.

I agree. Right now it's obvious are best players are Lucy and the freshmen. It's great that our freshmen are ahead of schedule but they're still freshmen. Our seniors are not playing great.

What is this? Like Lisa left Jan with an empty cupboard........add in Lucy Olsen being a great addition to the roster from the portal.

Jan doesn't know how to manage her roster. That's a coach problem, not a personnel problem.

This team needed Lucy to be great but she’s just good and currently off
At this point, Thelwell has become the better transfer portal guard. I think Lucy needs to stop trying to fit in and just play her game. It appears to me that she's too indecisive because she wants to be a good teammate, which by doing so, ironically, does not make her a good teammate.

Freshmen > return players
^^^^^Didn't watch the game, but looking at the box score...might as well bench Feuerback, Steulke, and Affolter and play the freshmen.
It's clear the upperclassmen were only made to look decent from what CC did.

And I hope JJ seriously asks Gyamfi to move on. She is a wasted scholly.

Just don't agree at all. NONE of the seniors on this roster are difference makers. ALL are role players who fit into a system built around one generational star, and another really good senior. As a group without Clark there good players (not difference makers) playing in a deeper conference, and a middle of the pack team at BEST. The freshman show good potential, but are not quite ready for this spotlight. As I said before Olsens a GOOD player, and a good addition, but she's not a difference maker in a conference this loaded. If you think she'll be a top ten scorer in the country THIS year, in this conference then your smoking something. I wouldn't begin to tell you to take my word for it. Watch the Damn games. Which of the hold over upper classman on this team is a 1st team all B1G player. Stuelke could possibly be, but she's a fish out if water playing out of position in a spot she doesn't have the skills to play, ad now she's struggling even at the rim. Certainly part of that is on Jan, but even if Hannah was playing the 5 we'll have to play a LOT better to win even half the upcoming conference games. We haven't even played the really good teams in the league yet, and our scoring average is down almost 25-30 points a game from last season...

For sure there is NO go to player on this team currently....

The issue now seems like it might be tough to find any portal help for next season because this team looks more like a WNIT team or fringe NCAA team.

More than one piece will be needed.

Does JJ stick with the non producing upperclassmen and hope Iowa gets in the tourney or does she risk playing the freshmen and finishing barely above .500?

Things aren't completely Lucy's fault. Best scorer on the team and there really isn't anything going on to get her an open shot. That should be primary focus, but difficult to do when nobody else is a threat.

Not a great game, but no way Olsen should be on the bench like she was today. If they aren't finding ways for her to get decent looks, I think it's coaching failure.

This team plays way too slow. This group is so used to playing fast and when they do speed up, due to necessity, they play way better. The other thing that was crazy to me was they always ran the same set to start the offense. It did nothing for them but they kept running it.

IMO the centers to play should be AH and try the one on the bench that never plays then AOG. AOG may score a few points, but she struggles with all other aspects of the game.
Are you referring to Ediger? God no! She is not a Big Ten player. Her and Gyamfi are taking up roster space. Hate to be rude, but being 4 years in the program those two still can’t get any minutes and it is for good reason.

You can't finesse and tweak your way out of this mess. Get mad and fight. The last two games Illinois and Indiana looked more interested in winning. Aside from Stremlow and Heiden, who's fighting?

And, the coaches need to grow a pair and sit anyone who's not giving it their best. Who cares that Afforlter and Stuelke contributed last year. This isn't last year.

Brother. Some hardcore assessments here. But it's not like Jensen is a rookie coach in a fresh program.

Except, the young players turnover more when we go fast, and they do not mesh with the veterans as well at a faster tempo.

I think the coach made a mistake investing so much time in the younger players as a group, kind of threw the baby out with the bath water. Now she has to demonstrate that she trusts her experienced vets to carry the load with the the rest of the season.

Gyamfi seemed to be there to have a good time.

The starters had more turnovers then the bench.

Absolutely.
Bobby said the best motivator is the bench.

Put Bluder on the bench right next to JJ
