I don't think they turn it over any more going fast than in the half court offense. They are all playing tight now. How many times has the shot clock run down and we get a poor shot or a turnover. They are thinking too much. Run and have some fun. You get mismatches and open shots when you run. We definitely should have run more against Illinois who only played 7 players. I think that was a big mistake by the coaches.Except, the young players turnover more when we go fast, and they do not mesh with the veterans as well at a faster tempo.
I think the coach made a mistake investing so much time in the younger players as a group, kind of threw the baby out with the bath water. Now she has to demonstrate that she trusts her experienced vets to carry the load with the the rest of the season.
Except "the vets" have done little to earn that trust. Syd has been Okay. Hannah has some pretty good games and some stinkers. She's just not comfortable away from the basket. AOG is okay sometimes on offense, but lost on D and has no instinct on how to rebound even when she's the biggest girl on the floor. She can't rebound anything thats not within arms reach, if even then, and ANYONE who grabs at the ball when she has it either ties her up, or takes it right away from her. Watch Stremlow attack loose balls and track rebounds, and you'd see the difference in someone who understands effort and aggression. God bless her, but I don't see a thing Kylie does better then any other year she's played at Iowa. She tries hard on defense, but she has Zero feel for how to play on offense, when to attack and is just not a good shooter, at all. The only returning player who may be playing a little better is McCabe, and thats marginal.Except, the young players turnover more when we go fast, and they do not mesh with the veterans as well at a faster tempo.
