While you're not entirely wrong, I would point this out: Connor of two or three years ago is not the Connor of today. For one, he's a sixth-year senior now and, under normal circumstances, might be a grad assistant. But normal hasn't been around for awhile, so here he is, in his sixth year of competition, and he's making the most of it.
The younger Connor was a liability on offense. He had no shot. He simply could not score, which is OK in certain circumstances, but that was definitely an issue. But since late last season, Connor has turned from an offensive caterpillar into a butterfly. So it makes sense that as Connor's game has improved, so have the fans' opinions of his performance.
That basketball guru Ralph Waldo Emerson said, "A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds." As you know, that means it's dumb to stick to your opinion in the face of evidence to the contrary. So smart Iowa fans who may have criticized Connor before would be fully justified in changing that opinion now because the evidence has changed.
I've always greatly appreciated Connor's competitive spirit, his chip-on-the-shoulder attitude, his toughness. Iowa basketball needs at least a few guys like that every season, and Connor has never backed down from that role. But now he's not only tough, a great passer and ball handler, rebounder and defender, he has developed an offensive game that must be respected. I hope he continues to have a great final season. The Hawkeyes need him if they intend to have a successful campaign. The new Connor is one heckuva of a player.
