Steveson

2022 would have been his redshirt had it not been for the covid year. Nobody took an actual "redshirt" that year, even if they never competed.
Abe has never redshirted.
Has an Olympic Redshirt if he wants also.

I don't think he was suggesting you could redshirt your way out of the potential penalty. If the suspension is for loss of a full year of eligibility, he's done no matter what. But if it's a partial suspension, couldn't he still take an Olympic Redshirt and then serve the eligibility suspension when he's back the following year?

If it's just for a portion of your eligibility, then the same portion that would be affected, would still be affected after the redshirt, no? Or would he be 'forced' to serve the suspension immediately by the NCAA, thus eliminating the possibility of redshirting?
yes, correct. MSU was right. i read thru it too quickly.

He’s going to have to compete against Angelo next year anyway, unless they talk Ferrari into redshirting or Abe bumps to 197 if we get no better options there. Hope to have a better option at 197, but not looking good.

Abe has wrestled 3 post seasons outside of the free year. He could use a couple redshirts but he only has 1 year left to compete no matter how you look at it.

So possibly wrestle in 2026. Does that beat Kems age his final year?

or theoretically he could be a first round NFL pick in three years

I’m guessing Iowa football won’t redshirt him if he can help on special teams….. they haven’t been redshirting kids like they used to with kids ready to contribute cause they leave early anyway for draft

I would assume he has a special plan of progression through both programs if he really wants to compete at the highest level of both sports….. pretty unique situation
He is way better at wrestling than he is at football. He wasnt a world beater in football. He was (literally) in wrestling.

If Gable comes and they add AJ in January they will definitely need a roofer on call
Are you people really that delusional to think gable needs Iowa to build a brand by winning an NCAA title and AJ Ferrari is getting ready to set out his fifth semester of college and you think he’s eligible in January

He was still a 4 star in football, which tied him for the highest rated recruit in his class at Iowa. We have had lower rated guys make it to NFL.

Correct. Alabama wasn't exactly beating the doors down. If he develops into an NFL prospect, it will be because Iowa football made him a much better footballer than he is now. And that would require him to play/train football full time.

Best case scenario for us? He's relegated to a backup position, and don't require him to stay with the team through bowl season/practices.

I think with the amount of money going into the wrestling program now there is a good chance he chooses Wrestling full time after a couple years on the FB team... (no inside info)

Iowa has a good track record developing guys with potential like him, into great players, especially tight ends, O line and defensive players. Campbell from Cedar Falls was no higher than a three star, and look at what they turned him into. I agree that someone like Campbell would not have achieved what he did in football while trying to train wresting hard enough to be a national champion contender. I see Johnson from Illinois flipped from to Wisconsin to do both sports also. He is only a 3 star football recruit, but has a brother in the NFL.

I agree Iowa is going to have to develop Keuter. It took time to develop Campbell, Angerer, Jewel and others. If he is not fairly certain to go in the first two rounds of the draft, I’d guess he stays in school.

I am thinking we haven’t had any LB’s come out early? We play a lot of 4-2-5 (cash). One could think his best chance to go early, is if he plays the Cash position, I think they want him at 240-250 which sounds a little too big for Cash?

I think he’s on Campus for at least 4 years. He’ll have to develop rapidly and be a can’t miss draft prospect to go before 4 years. There is a strong possibility we will see him on the mat, regardless of how the Steveson rumors play out. Time will tell.

He ain’t playing cash ……he may play as a 3rd linebacker in certain situations

I think he grows into an edge rusher….. but that’s completely speculation…..I’d love him to concentrate on wrestling but can’t bring myself to hope he doesn’t develop into a first round NFL draft pick if that’s his dream

not sure why that quoted you circle…. wasn’t your quote

Ben was offered early, committed over a year before signing day, and told other schools not to contact him because he is/was 100% Hawkeye. He was a top 200 football recruit which is very high. Even if Bama didn't come calling he would have had his pick of just about any other school.

He was a 4 star recruit. And with his wrestling, I bet if he had sought out Alabama - Saban would have taken him. He loves wrestlers.

Just saying that he's not a shoe-in NFL draft pick CURRENTLY. But Iowa is really excellent at developing players, so it really is a Catch-22. I think he will be super successful on the football field... Which isn't a good sign for him wrestling.

Being a 4 or 5 star and committing early hasn’t stopped Alabama from poaching our recruits in the past

Yes but as noted he was 100% and not talking to others. Maybe you missed that part.
They are all 100% Spoon until they aren't. They aren't committing because they aren't sure where they want to go. They are 100% at the moment they commit.
Agree with you on this one though. Ben is a Hawk through and through.

They are when a guy wants to wrestle, and the other offer is from Alabama.

Worst thing about that is we have to put recruiting a top heavy on hold

Never dreamed this was a thing but the smoldering keeps going.

If true. How many pints is this? And no, it still won’t be enough to catch Penn st next year.
