can that kid play left tackle?

I’m personally pretty optimistic we’re going to be pretty pretty good this year

Mobile QBs are the name of the game today. They are both nifty/mobile but JJ brings a plus running element over Cade.

Stats and performance wise, JJ and Cade's completion percentages are virtually equal. However, JJ's career passing statistics (TD/INT, Y/A, rating, etc.) are noticeably higher than Cade's. Granted, a lot goes into that, but my point was only that JJ is pretty darn good and his numbers show it.

Having now thought about your post, perhaps you were comparing the two back in 2021. That's fair. But it's also fair to say not only was J.J. a true freshman, but Cade was also ahead of him on the depth chart that year.

Of course, one of Cade's big challenges in 2022 was his knee injury. Total factor in losing the starting job. But again, JJ is pretty good so that's nothing to be terribly concerned about as an Iowa fan.

From your lips to God's ears on the offense. :)
Look at J.J.’s passing from the MSU game on from last year. B R U T A L. Mind you, his stats were pretty skewed early since he played against CSU, Hawaii, UCONN and Maryland. All of which had defenses High School teams would light up.

Even where his passing percentage was solid against Iowa and PSU he was 18-24 for 155 yds and 17-24 for 145 only passing for 1 TD combined with 1 INT.

I just don’t see him as QB. He is a special athlete that plays that position in a Conference that he can exploit. His style works in the B1G, especially now that everyone basically sucks but them, tOSU and PSU. But, I think he got exposed against Texas Tech (TCU) and would against the top SEC teams as well.

He only passed 4 times vs. CSU. That's the game where Cade started and played most of the game. Regardless, every major college QB plays against sub-par opponents.

He was 15/25 for 167 yards, a TD, no INTs and ran for 70 yards against MSU. Not great. Hardly brutal.

He lead his team to a conference title and the CFP and was 2nd team all conference.

And do you mean TCU instead of Texas Tech? Where he threw for 343 yards and 2 scores with a 151 rating and an offense that generated over 500 yards and 45 points? What I wouldn't give to have an Iowa QB exposed like that.

Again, back to my original point, he's good. He may not be your style or what you like but he's still a good college QB. No shame in losing the starting job to him.

Obviously, I watched the MSU game VERY closely. He honestly looked like a great High School running back who the coach decided it would be a great idea to just make him the QB. Give him one of the top 5 offensive lines in football and go from there.

As far as the Tech thing went, for some reason I see TCU and type Tech. Have done that several times now. But, he was a turnover machine that game. Mind you, they were U G L Y turnovers (2 pick 6s and a costly fumble). Also a 151 rating is NOT great in College Football. To put it in perspective, his rating was 334.5 against Hawai...

With that said, I DO think he is such a special athlete and I get why people like him. Against most of the B1G and their early powder puff schedule he WILL dominate. However, under pressure, I just am not sold on him as an elite QB and do think Cade has some upside and a skill set in areas that I see deficiencies in J.J.'s game....I think you guys got a pretty good QB. I just hope you actually run an offense to actually use him properly!

You feeling OK Spooner? You haven't insulted anyone or tried to show how stupid they are in awhile. If you're not careful, people might start thinking you actually smile.

You get laid?

151 isn't necessarily great, but that wasn't the point. It is however fairly good. He was 155 for the year which was 3rd in the conference. You said he was "B R U T A L" which is far from the case. Iowa fans know what brutal QB play looks like. Trust me. :)

Based on past experience, Iowa doesn't know how to use anyone properly. But I sure am glad we are giving ourselves a chance with Cade.

That’s pretty much it, right? Sometimes life is hard and decisions are bigger than the individual. I love Big Tony to death but Iowa simply cannot turn down Gable Steveson. (And I’ve been calling this “recruited over” stuff BS from day 1.)

That said, I’d still be more surprised to wake up and find out Steveson is a Hawkeye than I would be to find my head sewn to the carpet. Fun to think about though.
You have no idea how much "fun" both of those scenarios are to think about.

I guess my “brutal” is relative to expectations. at MSU we were very fortunate to have a great run on QBs until Thorne. Thorne however was definitely even more brutal than JJ. But, after year one, I expected it. Especially, when he no longer had a monster running back to lean on…

Ahh come now MSU, you're one of us! The screen name IOWA158 is still available.
Lol, you get a lot of me for rasslin’, but football ain’t happening! Mel still has his hands full with the mess he inherited, but I still have faith he can turn it around.

Meanwhile, you guys really have created a special defensive program. You just need to find a way to score points…

The sky is the limit if Cael trains him....Steveson could end up being an NCAA champ and possibly even a World or Olympic medalist!!!
Conversely, god forbid he fails in a Hawkeye singlet. TnT would get blamed for the regression

At Iowa the defense plays a dual role.

"Coach, I don't want to take my Olympic RS."
"Okay, your call. As always, I support you 100%."
And "See you at wrestleoffs".

The idea of taking an Olympic RS solely so that you don't lose a year of NCAA eligibility when the guy who is virtually guaranteed to beat you out for the Olympic spot also takes your spot at your university is a blatant abuse of the ORS system (that applies to both Kerk & Cass). If more stuff like that happens, ORS's will probably be eliminated.

Dude that type of thing has been happening for quite a while. Olympic redshirts aren't going to be eliminated. Cass has earned the right to an Olympic Redshirt if he chooses. He's earned it regardless of the situation.

When I looked at who is eligible, I was surprised. But yeah, people will use it to their advantage and I doubt it changes.

Just thinking out loud, but with the UFC and WWE merging, I wonder if that's a possible 'plus' for us considering the UFC NIL deal for Men/Womens wrestling with Iowa. Wasn't it something in his WWE contract that prevented him coming back and competing this past year when he was planning a surprise return? Maybe being a UFC affiliated University would help. Or it could have no bearing at all, idk.

This is a very specific situation that has probably never happened, but thanks.

Who wants to take a bet on who's going to be the Hawk's starters next year?;)
I would think we would be high on his list if he doesn’t go back to Minnesota. The fact they haven’t upgraded 97 after losing truax, makes me think they haven’t given up on AJ. Those two back to back would be crazy

So, what happens if the so called sure fire winner gets hurt? Good thing Rulon didn't feel that way when he wrestled the Russian Bear. And the scenario you used for your stance has likley never happened before and probably never will again.
