Steveson

And "See you at wrestleoffs".

The idea of taking an Olympic RS solely so that you don't lose a year of NCAA eligibility when the guy who is virtually guaranteed to beat you out for the Olympic spot also takes your spot at your university is a blatant abuse of the ORS system (that applies to both Kerk & Cass). If more stuff like that happens, ORS's will probably be eliminated.
this is ludicrous lol. pretty long list of guys who took olympic redshirts then didn't even compete at the trials. it's always been like that.

@smalls103 segment on this today was a logical mess. His takeaway was the only way this makes sense is if Cass is involved in gambling. He confused himself with saying ORS couldn't solve the suspension problem because it takes a year of eligibility.

1) Is that even true? If so, why isn't Daton Fix out of eligibility. His ORS seems to have saved him a year.

2) It's irrelevant. Cass already has an ORS available for his U23 medals. If he's not involved with gambling, he can take his ORS, let Gable, Kerk, and Hendrickson graduate, and come back as the favorite his senior year.

Just because you don't think the ORS is a solution to a possible gambling suspension doesn't mean it's not a possible solution to the lineup issue.

Fix was out from Feb to Feb for his situation. Also suspensions will be severed after an ORS you can't take an ORS to get out of a suspension. If Gable comes Cass will have a great partner

Will a one year suspension result in a loss of one year of eligibility? Or not?
If it is the NCAA issuing the punishment, then yes. 1 year means 1 year of eligibility. International does a calendar year from a certain date, so it would be possible, like in the Fix instance, for him to still be eligible for the post season(feb-feb). the following year.

Wasn't pretty much the whole year he was suspended the year he took his ORS though? I can't remember anymore, but I thought he never really missed anything in his suspension year as he used the ORS and didn't lose a year of eligibility for the suspension really when you think about it unless I am remembering wrong?! Did Fix's ban come from USA wrestling or from the NCAA though as that would be how he could skate around losing NCAA eligibility.

In his case it was an International suspension and I think the NCAA just mirrored it. Definitely a different situation than what the gambling fiasco is...

Wada suspension and NCAA honored it. Fix took a RS in 2020 and NCAAs were cancelled his suspension came in Feb 2020 and he was back from suspension Feb 2021 and wrestled NCAAs in 2021

Ok, that makes sense. He just got really lucky and really only ended up missing the beginning of the 2021 season. Never missed a NCAA tourney from a 1 year suspension. That was some good fortune on his part.

That would be great for cass if he can hang in there 1 more year. PSU had Brooks listed as a senior on 22/23 roster, and he’s coming back next year with Covid year. Kerk was listed as junior, so would be senior next year. Wouldn’t he have Covid year to use the following year?? Even so, you would hope drilling with gable at least part time would help him.

Correct.

Kerkvliet:
2019-2020: Redshirt Year
2020-2021: AA - Free covid year
2021-2022: AA - 1st year burned
2022-2023: AA - 2nd year burned
2023-2024: 3rd year burned
2024-2025: 4th year

He also has an Olympic Redshirt available if PSU were to add Gable to the mix. Which would extend Kerk to 2025-2026 season for his final year, should he choose to use it.

A bunch of different words to essentially say the same thing. In Fix’s case he didn’t “lose” a year of eligibility. In fact, he is one of the few guys that is going to get the extra 5th year.

Meanwhile, in the gambling situation, sadly, the NCAA will be much more specific. If they do hand down a 1 year suspension, I do not see how anyone skirts losing an entire year of eligibility….

pretty crazy that someone who calls himself the greatest mind in wrestling can’t even wrap his mind around how olympic redshirts work

Could tie Kem’s record for years in college as a wrestler 😉

Steveson is the only reason Minnesota wrestling has even been relevant in the last few years. They’ll do anything to keep him in that singlet.

How about we all get one thing right. Stevenson = no. Steveson = yes. If we really want him we got to get his name right.
I’ll be honest….. I’ve been calling him stevenson all along…… glad you pointed that out

^^^^Agree, totally.

I fully expect the NCAA to come down HARD on those involved gambling.
Full season and loss of 1 year eligibility is my guess.

Don't be surprised if team points from the tournament are taken away as well. I honestly believe the NCAA is going to come down with a big hammer and message for both athletes and coaches about this.

From last season?

From last season?
😅😅😅 If that happens to a few teams, ISU fans can then claim a top ten finish at Nattys.

Dresser's first in Ames after 6/7 years.
And the Hawks will be decided underdogs in this year's dual vs the Clones when the smoke settles.

But aren't they going to be sanctioned, too? Wouldn't they likely lose points as well???

Just like forfeiting wins for a football team playing guys who are deemed ineligible after the season. That was one of my first thoughts when the raid was taking place.

I'm not putting anything past the NCAA when it comes to this and the message they are going to send.

Who cares if they take points from us? We’re not a program that’s happy just to get a trophy.
The "taking points" thing is a joke.
No one cares.
A kid losing his AA finish might hurt the individual, tho.
I get the feeling this wraps up before mid July.

For coaches that have incentives tied to national placement it would mean something.

Very doubtful they will ask the coaches to repay any bonus unless the charges end up being criminal and the coach was complicit. A coach can only do so much to control the "off the mat" actions of his/her athletes. But then again, it will depend how the contract is written.

Look at what happened to LSU just last week. Had to vacate all wins for a 4 year period because of an "ineligible" player.

Typically, if your actions would have made you ineligible, they retroactively take away all of the "wins" a team received from those players. Wrestling being an individual sport, they'll likely take their points away. Which could mean we lose every dual from last year and fall WAY back in the 2023 NCAA placement.
