I don’t know if the self reporting the below player did helped, but this player’s story came out I believe in 11/2022. His punishment was decreased upon appeal. Hoping whatever comes down will be less than a season. There is now some precedent set to hopefully follow.

Football player Alan Tisdale was suspended six games -- half a season -- for betting on NBA games. Tisdale self-reported the bets to Virginia Tech officials, and initially received a nine-game suspension from the NCAA before it was reduced after a Virginia Tech appeal.

Welp... these weren't self-reported. So MommaNCAA will not be giving points for telling the truth before she found out.

Remember, the NCAA didn't give him a deal either. It was the Arbitrator in the Appeal Process...

Look at what happened to LSU just last week. Had to vacate all wins for a 4 year period because of an "ineligible" player.

Typically, if your actions would have made you ineligible, they retroactively take away all of the "wins" a team received from those players. Wrestling being an individual sport, they'll likely take their points away. Which could mean we lose every dual from last year and fall WAY back in the 2023 NCAA placement.
My comment was in response to a comment made about a coach having to forfeit and return his/her bonus. I just said I doubt the bonus would be recovered after a prolonged period of time unless it was criminal or depending how the contract was written. It didn't have anything to do with the school's and or coach's record.

My comment was that the guys who finished outside trophy contention and have a bonus clause in their contracts would be interested in how this plays out. I never talked about returning money.

When you stated coaches that had incentives tied to placement that technically could have meant receiving money and/or losing it. Either way, it wasn't a shot at you. I was simply stating I didn't think anyone would go after a coach who had received a bonus for something like this.

Ya it was a muddy mess when I wrote that. Should have worded it better.

Don't be surprised if team points from the tournament are taken away as well. I honestly believe the NCAA is going to come down with a big hammer and message for both athletes and coaches about this.
Well, good thing the other 400,000 NCAA athletes who have also violated this rule (like a $5 bet with a buddy on some game) didn't get caught or there'd be no games for a year and all scores would retroactively become 0-0 ties.....🙄

This isn't that. It was found as part of a criminal investigation. Not that these guys committed any crimes, but this is not a case of a one-off.

Understood, but doesn't change the rough validity of my point. 1/100 bets, small/large amounts, with a buddy or a gambling website.......all violations if on about any sport. I'm guessing 83% have violated it once. Not an excuse, just a reality. I'll move on now.

Your point was ridiculous. Just saying.

There are like 400,000 unsolved murders in the USA. That doesn't mean we stop penalizing the guilty.

Yes, it does change the validity of your claim. So? What does your claim have to do with current situation? Why not focus on what is going on rather than theoretical situations looking to make athletes victims of their current predicament.

The point is that the penalty should meet the seriousness of the crime. One can argue about the seriousness of gambling--to me, it's very close to jaywalking and not at all like murder. It's legal and ubiquitous across the US--for anyone who is not an NCAA athlete or Seventh Day Adventist. Losing a season--or most of a season--is not a punishment that fits the crime.

I think you and El Dub are arguing, well, it is a crime and they should've known, and now they have to pay the consequences. That is also true. It doesn't make Trapper's point ridiculous. But you know that.

Gambling is an addictive behavior with potentially negative consequences. I don’t see it as j walking, nor murder. There may be a criminal component to this investigation. That fact would seem to point to something going on beyond j walking or harmless betting.

I’m not arguing it’s a crime. It’s explicitly prohibited behavior with potential downside.

If they were betting on horse racing, for instance, I absolutely agree.

If they were betting on NCAA wrestling, or any other NCAA sport, losing a year is appropriate IMHO. Especially since all these knuckleheads knew it was the one thing they couldn't do.

Don't disagree but if guys knew it was against the rules, knew what the consequences are, and did it anyways, they deserve the penalty. Changing the punishment for stuff like this is a separate conversation.

If you bet a case of beer or $20 with a friend on some kind of sport no one knows. If you sign up for an app where your information is publicly available and you know it's an NCAA violation, you are an idiot.

It's saying hello, here I am doing this thing that's not allowed!!

I don’t know, I live/work in LA where there’s a sh*tload of traffic and j walking has become an addictive behavior…….

Did I ever say they shouldn't be punished somehow? Rules are rules....even if stupid as hell as worded and 83% break them.

Do you even know what they bet on, or how much? I don't. So what is "the current situation" to which you refer? I stand by my point...the rule as worded is stupid, I'll guarantee tons of athletes have violated it, and very few have been caught. Never once said there should be no punishment at all for those caught.

Again, of course tons of people have violated it and were not caught. That's why you watch what you do and using betting apps is stupid if you are an NCAA athlete. we could bet on pushups between us or on a football game and winner buys a case of beer and it's probably a violation but no one cares.

That's not why they have the rule of course and if you're crazy enough to report yourself or us the NCAA might just tell us to go away. the amount of time, money and effort for that piddly stuff isn't worth it to them. But if you're so obvious and it's so blatant they will bring the pain.

If you know any cops and understand what they do for one drug bust let alone busting a ring of dealers you know it's work. Don't make it easy for the guys in charge, because then they will make an example of you.
Fair? Yep, because you screwed yourself. 100,000 guys bet $20 on a game with a friend and they never get caught unfair? Nope, because there's no way to track it.

Was watching NXT wrestling on USA network last night and they had some match with a bunch of wrestlers on the edge of the mat. Kinda resembled a cock fight scenario.
Anyway, GS was one of the guys on the outside and he was wearing his Olympic medal and rahrahing the event.
It just really appears he's nothing more than "a small fish in a big pond" type character today.
I really think his professional career is dead before it starts.

Seems ppl thought it was gonna be another Angle situation but hasn’t panned out so far for him. Seems pretty stagnant, not surprised he’s missing those ncaa days

Yep. I think GS envisioned Lesnar/Angle role when he signed on.
I think WWE probably regrets signing him.
Once that contract expires, it's either maybe MMA or I'm sure they'd make room for him on the Gopher's staff.

He’s got a few more Olympics in him but hope he stays with wrestling and coaching. He’s huge to help grow the sport. Not gonna do it in wwe

He has the personality and athleticism, and the Olympic angle to use, not sure why they couldn’t make him a star? If he coaches, hope it’s not the Minnesota head coach, may have the star appeal Cael had in the beginning

The moment he says he wants to coach, minne best be on the phone asking how much. I hate that program but they need something like that to feel relevant again.
