The CC Show....

He's arguing because he's a gigantic douchebag.
I'm responding to posters who are posting nonsense, easily debunked by data.

Several of them, now, have admitted that CC's play has substantially improved from her early games.
That was all I'd stated from the get-go. Now folks seem to be admitting it.

The Olympics are over. We have disagreements on the logic of CC being left off the team. All I know is I didn't watch the Olympic team because I wasn't interested. I would have watched if CC was on the team. They made their choice and won the gold. It's over, but the CC show goes on. I'd rather talk about the present and the future than spend time arguing about the past. Go Fever!

This is what I've posted for pages here (and provided you clear "statistics" that prove it).

That her early play was spotty, and poor at times. A factor in why she was not considered for the Olympic team.
If she was playing back then like she is now, they may have made a spot for her; literally what Dawn Staley inferred in her interview that got everyone riled up here.
That is not what Dawn Staley said or inferred. You are making this up.

Better than at least two Olympians whose primary role is ball handling. That is If the magic metric is a/to.
Pro tip. It isn’t.

John Stockton played with men who knew how to play the game at a high level. Clark plays with uncoordinated women that are not very athletic at all, none of which really play the game at her pace naturally

Oh, now it's a "women" problem.

We've moved into some fully new territory here...

10 assists (I think) away from tying the WNBA season record

306 and needs 316 to tie
Quite possibly could happen tomorrow.

I will fully agree with you, that she had gotten better/adjusted her game to the positive, since the start of the WNBA season.

Personally, I never disagreed with this statement, but never gave it much thought either.

If that is truly your point, then you don’t have to convince me.

That is how we compare player metrics.

It's how team owners 'rate' players for their contract renewals. It's how everyone in this thread is claiming how great she is based on Assists #s and Triple-Doubles, etc.

Now, statistics no longer matter?
Stats are not the only way to measure a player.
Movement without the ball.
How they move off screens
Backside help on defense.
Spacing
Hustle
Ball movement
On ball defense
Blocking out
There are many things that don’t show up in stats.

Stats are not the only way to measure a player.
Movement without the ball.

Backside help on defense.

Ball movement
On ball defense

There are many things that don’t show up in stats.

Most of those eventually correlate to one of the metrics.

CC is not known for her tenacious defense, either. In fact, early on, she was a liability on defense (I watched)

I will fully agree with you, that she had gotten better/adjusted her game to the positive, since the start of the WNBA season.
me.

This is what the others have been complaining about the entire thread.
Her level of play has improved enormously over the course of (less than) one season. Most elite players require a season or two before they really get to that point.

You can see it pretty clearly in the metrics, and she's outperformed all of the past 6 league rookies in that respect. It's just odd that folks are stuck in the "she was already great enough" for Olympics (she might have been, but had not proven herself), when what's really impressive is how her play has improved after her first 10 games.

Kind of like how coaches refer to minor-league baseball players vs major league stars.
Minor leaguers take months (or longer) to make batting adjustments being pushed at them.
When you make your jump to the majors, you're making those adjustments in a week or so
The real stars (and All Stars) make those adjustments between at-bats, after seeing a pitcher once or twice.

CC is making those competitive adjustments game to game now. The result is a team that started 2-9 and has since gone 17-8, a .680 winning percentage, that make them a team most don't want to match up against in the playoffs. A healthy Fagbenle could make them a very dangerous team if she's 100%.

point was: you said stats are how you measure how good a player is. It is not. You are wrong and that is tough for you. Just move on.

I don't know why I am reengaging and the point has surely been made, but the improvement in her stats more reflect her teammates and her coaches adjusting to her rather than her doing a whole lot differently. Sure she improved, but she was the same player who just a month earlier put a period on a season resulting in this:

Past that, move on.

Sure she improved, but she was the same player who just a month earlier put a period on a season resulting in this:

No, she was not "the same player".
Her performance metrics are nearly double what they were.

Posting college stats does not alter that fact.
Compare CC's freshman year #s to her senior year. Same thing.

You're right, she was a completely transformed woman in May 2024 from April 2024.
