Brilliant strategy for recruiting purposes, keeping the coach's lame duck son on staff to collect paychecks and maintain his offensive coordinator/QB coach duties through the beginning and end of the transfer portal window (he's staying on through January).

It was already a tough sell to get skill position players to come to Iowa with the coaching staff at full strength. What kind of difference making offensive player is going to commit to play his senior year at Iowa when he won't even know who will be calling plays? Certainly no QB will come in to compete with the incumbent QB who has played 3 games in 2 1/2 years and has two bum knees. Even OL need to know this before committing a year of eligibility to a school.

It's time for Kirk to put the program ahead of his family for a change and make an announcement on offensive coordinator. Brian refuses to even wear a tiger hawk on his shirt...do you think the guy is out there recruiting like every other college coach is right now?

Yo bro, we would never name one other than interim anyway at this point. OCs are not out there jumping around at this point. There is no time for anyone to communicate either. We have a title game and bowl to prep for.

If you got all the answers man, why aren't you making 7 or 8 mill a year coaching football?

What if the next hire is already on the staff? No announcement necessary, you can tell the kid in the portal/recruits who it is.

In all seriousness, this Tyler Barnes dude may have to earn his pay over the next 1-2 months. I have no idea what he does most of the time, but he needs to be on the phone with potential offensive recruits (H.S. and portal) and selling Iowa football as a whole and convincing them to hold off their decisions until Iowa has its offensive coaching staff in place for '24.

Bla Bla Bla Bla. Everyone knows that the position has to be posted and that isn't going to be happening till after the season. I believe the deal was cut and made to be kept quiet with Brian being terminated till after the end of season so this would not happen. But someone had to leak it to satisfy the ego and here we are in a bad situation. If Beth or whoever pushed her had waited till after the season this would not be a issue.

Maybe so as not to lie to recruits that would sign in a couple weeks.

Blah, blah, blah.

Rinse and repeat.

Maybe she should have mentioned that to whoever made the decision to keep BF on until the end of the season. She messed up.

Randy hedberg, same age as ferentz, would be a huge pay upgrade for him and has sent several QBs to NFL, boom problem solved kinda… could be worse scenarios forsure

News flash genius, the offense has been killing offensive recruiting for a while. After the last two decisions, do you really expect the announcement to sell recruits to come here? If anything maybe kids can have a false hope that someone exciting will come here. Most the offense players we pick up are not turning down other major p5 teams. And if they are they play offensive line and or tight end. Each position Kirk has thrived at sending to the NFL, those kids will still probably be coming here.

This thread is hilarious...You do realize 99.9% of the players in the portal are going to the highest NIL bidder.
Not true at all. 99.9 percent of players in the portal are going to find no takers. Maybe it's not that high a percentage, but going by the history of the portal, the majority of players who enter it never find a new school. Fact.

Correlation does not imply causation, it was just one more unnecessary hurdle an incompetent meddling AD threw at the team.
Maybe it sparked the team. Maybe the team crawls in a hole and finishes 1-3 if not for the incentive of playing with something to prove for BF. You don’t know; nobody ever will. Fact is that the team is 4-0 in Nov and headed for the BTCG, and.an utterly underperforming OC is on his way out. Sounds like she really knew what she was doing.

No issue with AD decision at all. This whole offensive issue (pun intended) is a mess recruit-wise no matter how you slice it. Brian not announced and recruiting has blown, announced leaving with unknown vacancy and recruiting is still going to probably remain status quo. Unless or until an offense identity is changed/upgraded our recruiting level on this side of the ball will remain as is for better or worse.

4-0 since the announcement, when the team was coming off a bad loss and things were looking gloom. Sounds to me like the timing was perfect.
So who gets credit for the 6 wins before the announcement? Thank god Kirk has the integrity to stay focused on the goal and achieve what they set out to do, despite the AD's lame attempt to disrupt the team chemistry, which if you saw the Phil Parker's post game clip, awarding KF the game ball, you know it runs deeper than all the keyboard warriors knowledge put together...

My point stands and is a pretty strong one. I have no idea what your point was about the game ball. The players and coaches support each other so there’s no need for accountability???

Based on yours and chucksizzle’s posting history, I suspect you’re both misogynists, and just have a problem with what happened because BG is a woman.

Do recruits like playing for teams that are in their conference title game?

Goetz made the decision at the particular time, in part, to help with recruiting. It certainly couldn't have hurt.

There really wasn't any choice but to keep Brian through the end of the season. There aren't a lot of options available midseason to have brought in someone from the outside. And it would have been a disservice to this year's team. There's no way if things would have been changed that drastically that this team would have finished 10-2. Why is next year's team any more important than this year's? It's not. And Brian is not only the OC but the QB coach. There just isn't the manpower currently in house to have replaced both of those positions in season and from within. For example, even if Copeland were able to step into both positions, who would coach the receivers?

Also, the team has clearly pulled together after the announcement and played better ball. And it appears a weight was lifted off Brian and overall he's been coaching offense better than he previously was

Iowa started the season 4-0 in its first five games, averaging 28 PPG. Cheating MI omitted.

Injury, after injury, after injury to key offensive players presented challenges in the first five weeks of the season. Credit Ferentz and Co for managing their way through those challenges, keeping the focus where it needed to be, and finding ways to win. Iowa fans got a season to remember and a UI prez we will all want to forget.

Dude, what is your obsession with Barbara Wilson? Not only do you mention her in just about all of your posts, you constantly refer to her as “prez ilson.” Give it a rest.

She inserted herself into the conversation when she stepped over the AD and HC. She can stay front and center while this one plays out.

And time for you to move up the page with your give it a rest campaign, more work to be done.

We can't hire an oc or at the least announce it. Do you understand football at all? Or timing? Seasons not over bud and Kirk is doing nothing wrong. He just keeps winning.

I see that following a thread is still difficult for some.

I don't remember her name being mentioned when everything went down. But my opinion is that behind the scenes she was pushing Beth to terminate Brians contract early to get some of the media from keeping the 325 in the spotlight.

No QB will come anyway- the staff loves Cade and QB2—.All others may as well transfer out
