Ben VanSumeren to Michigan

Yes, it was a joke. Sorry if that wasn't clear. I haven't LOVED any of his previous classes. I've loved some of the individual players in them, obviously, but didn't LOVE them as a whole. I LOVE the 2018 class so far and hope we continue the recruiting momentum into 2019 and beyond
You didn't love the 2017 class? Look at the contributors already!!! And that's not including some DB's that I think are going to be good before they leave (if they stay). We've had a problem with that at times.

The 2014 class would graduate this year if they didn't redshirt, correct?

Yes, Niemann and Jacksons class

Difference in mentality today. Early in my career I took a new job then the company I worked for offered me more money to stay. I had made a verbal commitment so told them no. Without integrity you have nothing.

This isn't a new thing, it's been happening forever. And absolutely no one cares about a job opportunity you once had and the analogy you're making isn't relevant. The kid is going you his dream school, any one of us would have done the same thing if we were all being honest.

Harbaugh is such a tool, not the first time he has poached a Hawk commit. Garber head coach and the principal are what's wrong with our society, they had to get in the lime light. I've lived in Michigan for 15 years, glad to say I am moving. Good to get away from Michigan fans, MSU fans are humble and fun to tailgate with, Michigan fans are arrogant winner followers, flags go down when they lose.

Clueless.

Michigan is a D-bag school and that sums up the reasoning behind this selection. :)

Honestly this kid was the most non Iowa player I've seen in many years. He makes Eno look good. Let's think about this for a second. He commits to a national level program with a photo of him on a weight bench with make-up on. Then says I'm going to sign my loi on a weight bench. Blair asked him what his favorite part of the visit was and he said the photo shoot. Seriously this guy is an attention whore if I have ever seen one, total locker room cancer.

He wasn’t even the best linebacker or athlete in the state of Michigan, he was good, don’t get me wrong but there’s still a lot of good athletes out there better than this kid Iowa can get. Honestly I’m more disappointed about Stepp and he did it the “right” way and never committed to Iowa in the first place.

Ben wants to play on the offensive side of the ball (TE or FB). Iowa has plenty of them. Iowa, of course, had him slotted as a LB.

Oh, well.

Gentlemen he was “barely “ a 3 Star. More a high 2 Star. So he decommits, so therefore really no big loss at all. We will survive w/o the kid.
What’s really intriguing is that Harbaugh can’t recruit and is falling back on Iowa’s leftovers to sum up his class at the last min. This is a tell Vegas style that Harbaugh is reeling. Not getting it done v tOSU and that will be his demise. Grab your microwave popcorn and enjoy the UM debacle!

Where were all these posts when he was committed to Iowa? I'm not devastated he left...seems like kinda a non story.

I need to know what "dead" means to a theoretical physicist.
Schrodinger cat joke, I would presume?

Myself, I meant the phrase in the sociological, colloquial sense. My apologies for being so banal. What can I say, I have a soft spot in my heart for mr. wonderful.

Schrodinger's cat walks into a bar. And doesn't. Can you be alive and dead at the same time?
Given that a cat is 'technically' a classical state of matter - all the ill-effect of decoherence have done their damage. Thus, we needn't worry about all the cool properties of superposition states.

The metaphor of a dead-cat versus an alive-cat was simply intended to both elicit a visceral response by the lay- populace while simultaneously emphasizing how fundamentally different spin-up versus spin-down states are. The very fact that a quantum state can, in fact, be in a superposition state ... simultaneously a mixture of very different physical states ... is part of what makes quantum mechanics so cool (and so challenging for those early pioneering physicists to develop intuition for).

I'm so so much simpler than you. Quantum physics suffice for me. The effects of randomness in nature. We studied Planck's constant at Berkley. I graduated U of Iowa. Spent 10 years at Moody's. Then went to school at Berkley. Now watch football in Not Cal.

Can't blame him, grew up a Michigan fan. It's easy to bash a kid who's committed and then leaves for an opportunity that's better for him but this is the way it works these days.

Pfft. Then don’t commit. It’s a dick move. I hope he never sees the field. Honor your commitment little boy.

The odd thing is that much of quantum mechanics is inherently deterministic. The perceived indeterminism arises more out of the interpretation of the states and also the very fact that we measure quantum things with instruments that are effectively "classical" objects. If we were to "measure things" with quantum devices and judiciously track the quantum correlations in our measurement apparatus - we'd never really have to deal with things like "collapse of the wave-function." Of course, the scenario I paint is essentially impossible, because the state-space for quantum physics is so large (effectively infinite-dimensional).

Anyhow, I did grad school over at Santa Barbara ... James Van Allen always gave me crap for going to such a beach-bunny school. However, while he was occasionally setting fire to his print-outs in his 7th floor office back in Iowa (he'd still sneak smoking his pipe in his office) ... I was enjoy hanging out with the likes of Ed Witten and Stephen Hawking, something like 100 meters from the ocean, at the institute for theoretical physics (I think that it's now referred to as the Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics).
