I've never encountered workers as rude as the ones there. **** that place. It takes a lot for my wife to get pissed and she was ready to throw down.

Incident #1. Walked up to a sample booth with my 5 year old. There were kids going up and grabbing samples left and right, no parents with them. My kid, who is right next to me, grabs a sample. Lady flew off the handle about him needing to be 18 and I have to grab them for him. I laughed, legit thought it was a joke, and she gets up from her perch and starts laying into me. Cool, been a member for 5 minutes and had no idea, thanks for calmly explaining your rules and doing a bang up job enforcing them.

Incident #2. As we were walking up to the checkouts, they had 3 drink sample stands that we stopped at. The final one didn't have a trash by it so I just held on to my cup and told my son to do the same until we found a trash. We get up to the checkout and my wife starts unloading the cart while I have my membership scanned by the checker, I had my wifes card as well because she had a 3 card slot on her phone that has her ID and 2 cards, so i was holding it. My son noticed people eating hot dogs and wanted one, so I told my wife I was going up to get him one while she checked out. 2 birds, one stone. 30 seconds later I hear my name and see my wife waving for me. She told me she can't use her card with my membership. Huh? Then the guy, in a very rude tone, explains the membership name has to match the card name. Again, didn't know that, was not told that signing up, thanks for the condescending tone. Then I hear "Jesus, I fricken absolutely hate it when people do this! There are garbage cans right next to the stands." I didn't even know what was happening, then see that my son crumpled up his cup and threw it in the cart. He looks up at me with sad eyes, and I simply told him it was OK, but he needs to throw trash away, not in the carts. I also told him that it's never ever OK to talk to people that way. In the middle of this, douchnozzle interups ne to ask if I needed boxes. I told him to hold on a second while I finish talking with my kid and he responded with "fine, take your chances on their being boxes out front, I'm loading your cart." At that moment I hear my wife yell NOPE, just leave it all.

We walked up to the guy that signed us up and told him we wanted out money back. He finally did after explaining the scenario to him. What a bunch if ****ing clowns they have working there. We did absolutely nothing that deserved the attitude and ass chewings we got. CSB/Ctl alt del. I look forward to the comments of them being amazing and we must have done something.

costco is one of the stores that defines america. when they start disappointing customers it’s a sign of sorts. recently i’ve noticed a couple instances of decline in their approach to selling myself. could be because of a new management philosophy. op, your post has given me the sad.

What Costco were you at? WDM, Ankeny, or Cville?
Ankeny.
Can you not scan your items with your phone and skip the checkout line?
If it's a thing, we weren't told about it. Again, officially members for 38 minutes.
I will not step foot into Costco on Saturdays or Sundays.
Didn't have much of a choice. We live an hour and a half from the closest one. Stopped on the way home today after visiting the wife's family and it wasn't too busy when we were there.

I've been a Costco member for a long time and my experiences are just the opposite. Their staff is both friendly and helpful, the stores are clean.

I can't speak about the customers in your area, but here in metro Detroit, I don't recall any issues with Costco customers.
Same.
Ours is great. Never once had an issue. I got hearing aids there recently and the specialists treated me wonderfully.

Love Costco been a member there and Sams for years. Never a problem.
We had a Sam's membership for a year and went 3 times to the one in Ankeny. Didn't renew it because we didn't use it enough. Never had a problem there as well. Maybe I was just unfortunate to get the three grumpiest people on earth today, but it was enough of a turnoff to say F it. I will say that we would have saved a fortune on household items like garbage bags, paper towels, toilet paper, dishwasher tablets, washer pods, dryer sheets, counter wipes, etc by shopping there.

I refuse to join Costco near me because the parking lot jam is the worst thing I’ve ever seen.
I do belong to BJ’s which is based out of New England and has a better layout and a 1,000 times better parking situation.

Did you tell the wife’s sisters swag said “sup”. Also, that sucks about your trip to COSTCO. I was only there a small amount of time when it opened.

Sorry that happened. I’ve been a member for years through 4 different states and haven’t had a bad experience.

The ankeny store must suck.

Sounds like you ran into a couple pricks having bad days, but I get the general attitude and can't blame you. Costco can be kind of a love/hate type of store. My biggest issue is their philosophy of continually moving stuff around so as to force you to go hunt for it with the expectation you'll buy more stuff. The employees are less than helpful in finding anything like that, the last few I asked directed me to two different ends of the store, so I just gave up.

Hey Costco members...

All the YouTube BBQ influencers say Costco has the best quality and price for brisket.

Can you confirm or deny?

I went to the Costco at the Town Center today. It was a madhouse.

The name matching the name is bullshit. If you go to self checkout like we do, plenty of times my wife scans her membership card and I use my credit card to pay. If they’re not going to enforce it at self checkout, **** them.

We’ve never had a bad experience at Costco and we go often. Do you and your wife have resting bitch face? ;)

All the employees at the Costco in Davenport have been nothing but nice and we go there at least once a month. Have been a member for over a year now and love it.

I don’t care about the gas because I have Hy Vee fuel saver. We still get stuff at Hy Vee so I get good perks there.

Honestly couldn’t tell you the last time I stepped into a Costco. Seems like an awful way to spend any part of your weekend.

I'd bet the Costco employees there had an entirely different take on "what happened"....
There was no mistaking what happened. They acted like assholes and had zero and I mean zero reason to. If a kid touching a sample while his parent is next to him and finding a crumpled paper cup cause you to act the way they did, just drive off a bridge on the way home. Life must suck for them.

I’ve been to that same Costco 100 times. Never a problem once. You got struck by lightning on a clear blue day. I’d just write it off and pretend it didn’t happen.
