And here is the problem with going for two in the middle of the 3rd quarter. Iowa gets a field goal, it would be 23-14 had Iowa kicked the extra point. But, because they went for two, a field goal still only puts them up a score at 22–14.

This is why in-game coaching matters. Iowa is lucky it’s not 19-17 had Iowa State not missed that field goal.

This has been the case Kirk’s entire tenure at Iowa.
