Iowa State PBP

Dresser likely will be seeing some problems in the wrestling room based on how he's treated Degen.

It seems the frustration in the program boiled over tonite and the Hawks weren't backing down.
It seems like ISU knew they couldn’t beat the Hawks straight up. 133 wanted to finger fight with Desanto and hope to get him to boil over. It’s the only chance he or the clowns had of winning the dual.

Disappointing, to say the least.

Ybarra took 0 shots. Got smoked by #20-something.

Murin took 1 (and scored). (Still good to see him back and win a big match.)

Young took 0.

Brands took 1 (a re-shot in OT--and scored)--maybe he thought he was wrestling Starocci and was trying to keep it close. The guy was ranked #35!

Can we please end the Myles Wilson dog-and-pony show and let Assad wrestle? He needed that match more than he needed another week of writing "I will not lose to a high schooler again" on the chalkboard 100 times. Wilson isn't scoring points at NCAAs. Everyone knows that. The charade is getting old.

Warner got smoked. Tough match for first time back. But he got smoked.

There was chippiness on both sides, and I'm generally okay with it. But not with Telford instigating a team point loss. It didn't affect the outcome, and it was petty on Dresser's part to cry about it to the ref for 10 minutes until he got his pout-pout way. But it was probably deserved.

Go out, win the matches, win the meet. That's how you shut them up. Not all this extracurricular crap--after a lackluster performance, no less, against a team that has no right being in the same arena with the Hawks.

Bah.
Agreed on the Myles Wilson experience. He's got a lot of "want to" in him I believe, just doesn't have the overall skill to match. He wrestles hard, just doesn't have "it". If Assad isn't better we're in deep shit at 184.

We got "bad" Warner tonight. We've seen this one before. I'm keeping the faith.

Good win for Max Murin. Parker isn't great but he's decent. Max very Max-like as always. Found a way.

I missed the Ybarra match, sounds like the others that I've seen. No more comments necessary.

the extra curricular was the best part of the knight. ist even wussied that up. they come running up after the iowa guys were being herded back. metcalf and the guy in the stocking cap were real tough after telford was gone.
Ha, I noticed that too. what happened to that guy? Gotta be tough being part of that organization.

Like Tarphawk said, I'm not big on the extra stuff at the end. Take the mat, take care of business on it, smile and shake, then walk away. Kick their ass and move on to the next dual. This was just what that douchebag Dresser wanted to take the focus off another loss to Iowa and we gave it to him. I think he thinks "if we can't beat them, get under their skin instead" and then considers that ISU's "win". By the way, 17 in a row is not a rivalry in any way, shape, or form.

I barely remember the days when this dual was competitive.

Sad, really, how Dresser has not been able to make it even remotely close.

You look at tonite's ISU lineup and see such a hodge podge of wrestlers. That indicates KD hasn't been able to develop any recruiting connections and it appears things aren't getting much better based on all the well publicized misses on the recruiting trail.

Things seem to be spiraling downward quickly.

The end was Terry running over to shake hands really fast like usual and DSJ pushing him and then he and Metcalf pushed Tom. There was a video of it posted on Facebook. So contrary to the fake clown news they started the after match issues.

Mineo posted the video on Twitter as "proof" that Terry started the whole thing

Just watched the Dresser post match presser.

It appears he's "all in" on using the "we're a young team" excuse to appease his boss and the fans.

Interesting. Tom intimated in his post-meet presser that it was ISU's fault--he said emotions were running high after they lost the heavyweight match by a stall-out, and "of course" emotions are going to run high after that.

ISU's social media writer says it was caused by Terry Brands rushing the ISU bench.

He didn't look angry to me in the videos I saw--he and Tom were both trying to pull people back.

After all that, could've been a simple misunderstanding mixed with a lot of testosterone.

Dresser managed for his version of the facts to carry the day. I guess he wins the consolation prize.

Is there video of Tom’s post match?

As you can hear on a number of posted videos, the Let's go Hawks chant was loud in Hilton at the end. Ironside was on his feet with his hand ready to pull the headset off as soon as possible. Grace remained seated, presumably making sure the broadcast got off the air. Professionals.
I'm sure the loud Iowa fans really got under the skin of Pollard and Dresser.

Bah.
the vibe of this team feels different this year to me, and not in a good way. lee and kemerer's calm, quiet domination and leadership are sorely missed out there right now. they balance out the edginess of guys like eierman and desanto.

the last two years, the bench was actively engaged in matches, but it always felt like excitement directed at our own guys. now the bench just jaws at the other team for two hours. way too much of that relative to the amount of points our guys are actually scoring.

Terry ran in front of the scorers table and then went right thru the clown wrestlers, as they were all still behind the bench and came out the back. They were all probably like WTF. But Terry just ran thru them, thats it, nothing more

And the poor opposite team just sits there with their legs crossed and remains silent throughout..........

I guess Marinelli, Young, Cass and Warner don't count as "leadership"? Those guys have been throwing elbows and body checking guys for years. LOL!

are you ever not aggrieved about something? of course isu wasn't innocent. their wrestlers were worse behaved on the mat by far. based on dresser's post match comments about punching bullies in the mouth, they came ready to fight last night.

but i don't care about iowa state because i'm not an iowa state fan. i'm a hawkeye fan. the jawing has happened every dual this year. our team is the common denominator. if you want to jaw at the other team for two hours, score some damn points.

I hate to break this to you, but emotions run high at sporting events. All sports all ages, get out more I guess. I don't watch them intently for something to be offended by, which clearly you do and nobody is shocked by that.

I watch the wrestling, I don't watch the bench, and you're commenting from the same place I am, hundreds of miles away, but somehow you picked up on everything going on in the Arena. You are one talented fella that's for damn sure. LOL! You cherry pick things that get your panties in a bunch while giving the other team a pass.

When Tom and Terry Brands start punching other Coaches, Wrestler's or Fans, I'll worry about it (or throwing chairs onto the mat....). They've been doing this a long time and that's never happened. Get back to me when it does. They have their guys backs, that's good enough for me. Same as Gable, he got a bit fired up at times too. Watch some old tape and get back to us.

we just have a difference of opinion. you don't care about how the coaches and athletes conduct themselves. i'm pretty lax myself as long as they back it up on the mat. the team's doing an awful lot of talking for a pretty underwhelming start to the year. it looks hollow to me, but you fan how you want to fan brother.

I don't condone everything that an Iowa Wrestler, Basketball or Football player or Coach does, but I also don't go out of my way to be offended by it. That's what separates me from you and I couldn't be happier about that.

i know you’re obsessed with me because i disagreed with your politics a few times a year ago and now you follow me around this board, but i don’t go out of my way to be offended. i wasn’t impressed with the performance yesterday and less impressed with the behavior. there are plenty of others on the board who have said similar things this year. didn’t ruin my day or change my fandom. just hope the hawks repeat this year.

In our team's defense, Princeton and Iowa State were incredibly mouthy. Being at both meets, I saw it more as sticking up for our guys while the other team was mouthing off like they won a NC with a single win over a backup.

We also don't know what's going on in the room. Say Warner still isn't 100% and wanted to go out there and battle for his team anyways, then ISU talks endless shit after beating him. As his teammate, knowing what he's going through is going to make me defend him even more passionately.

It's painfully clear we have a lot of guys going through some physical ailments, and as a teammate that'd lead me to defend my guys even more passionately from a bunch of losers wanting to act like a fluke win at the Iowa Iowa State dual on Dec. 5th means anything.

It was clear the cameras were on Iowa last night, the big 12 seemed to want to make as much money off having Iowa around as they could, if you would've seen all the crap the clown bench was pulling throughout the meet, in addition to the dirty handshake by the heavyweight at intros, all the nudges and shoulders and elbows and whatnot by the 133 and heavyweight, you might be willing to give us a little more of a pass. Same with Princeton, the jawing by our guys certainly wasn't unwarranted with Glory and crews behaviors on their bench.

He could wait for them longer to shake hands but that is what he was running over there to do and DSJ started the pushing.
Yup, in one pic with Terry and the ISU bench DSJ has his hand in Terry’s back appearing to shove him. In another video where Tom is moving toward Metcalf, DSJ shoved him. Seems DSJ instigated plenty.

Terry ran through the ISU bench as a way to nonchalantly shake hands, but went through pretty quick and was heading back to the iowa bench. On his way over DSJ started body blocking him and then lightly pushed him through when Terry was going by. Then Tom comes over and Metcalf is in his face. Then Telford and DSJ go nose to nose, and the scuffle begins. Then Fellers saves the day. Nothing really more than that.

I think you can say there's a better way to go about the handshake line then what Terry does, and you can also say DSJ was certainly trying to instigate something.

I get everyone trusts TnT, but maybe take a step back and wonder why so many of his best wrestlers have a bad opinion of them. Metcalf, DSJ, Ramos, and Gilman. All iowa to the core and now can't stand them.

You can say it happens because they are in the other side or what ever. But I'm not seeing a lot of that with other teams.

Elbow thrown, spiked headgear, and coming from behind and shoulder checking Tony Cassioppi? Who does that to Cass who seems like the nicest, most professional kid you'd ever want to meet?

Seriously though...for the toughest contact sport out there, we have relatively few of these types of dust ups so when they do happen, there is always a gross overreaction.

I dunno...did any, or ALL, of them have unfulfilled expectations of being on staff and/or in a favored or protected position?

A very possible and plausible scenario. I'd say there needs to be better communication about that then.
We don't know if there was or wasn't. It seems to be a 'either with em or aginst em' mindset. They have taught it and lived it and now those seeds have taken sprout in those wrestlers and they are living that way as well.

Metcalf is Terry jr. in terms of mentality, so its no wonder they butt heads now. DSJ just seems and looks like a whiny turd. Ramos was pissed because TnT brought in a Hawk wresting to the HWC, Gilman is Gilman. Pretty easy to explain IMO.
