Frankly, I'm shocked Purdue is running the ball this much when they have the wind at their back. It burns the clock and plays into our defensive strength.

Afraid of the turnovers by this vaunted secondary....

Honestly though it may speak to a couple things.

Jones is not 100%, so it's not like they can just keep throwing him the ball on every play unless they really wanna get him killed.

There is an apparent lack of trust in the other PU receivers given the sheer lack of targets. Just look at Tracy for example.

Also, as long as Purdue can gash us for 4,5,6 etc yds on 1st and 2nd down in the run, they will continue to try to lean on that to establish tendencies or at the very least keep the chains moving.

That's why it was so important not to let Purdue get too comfortable being able to run the ball in spots.

That would seem like a hole in the rules. You could just take delay after delay penalty to run out the clock.
