Nate Jesuroga?

I have a nephew that is about 5'8", 140, and not very strong or physical. He was a Navy Seal and is going back to be one. I don't think he could do very well in the physical tests but his knowledge of explosives was/is sky high. Some Seals might just be there for their expertise. Anyone know anything about this?

He must have endurance. That looks different than physical strength, maybe? And that specialization might be all it takes to get a seal escort to do his thang?

If and when nate decides to pursue a career as a Seal he'll have a great shot at making it, assuming he can swim. Wrestlers make great seals. But he should get hardened in the hawkeye room for 5 years first and win a couple championships...
If this kid is serious about becoming a Navy Seal the last thing he should do is spend 5 years at any Division I wrestling program. Injuries are one of the big factors that eliminates guys at BUDS and any serious health issues that occurred during college wrestling are likely to reappear in that kind of environment.

Here is Admiral McRaven's Commencement speech. It's a really good speech but if your short off time go to the 3:30 point and listen as he talks about the "Munchkin" boat crew during Seal training.

now about nate j cannot be mad at anyone for wanting to serve their country, but i do not think a high school senior can know for sure that being a seal is a gimme, hope he realizes that recruiters will tell you anything to get you to sign
No truer words can be spoken WRT recruiters. While most are 100% ethical (I'm being generous), their priority is getting qualified - and sometimes not qualified - applicants to join the military (and ship). Those who don't ship; don't count. It's difficult to get a kid to sign his life away; it's even more difficult to get a kid to sign his life away and actually ship out to basic training. Back in the old days those were called DEP losses (signed up but didn't ship) which of course counts against the recruiters' quotas.

Awesome series. Too bad Vince Flynn died at such a young age
Amen to that. And the guy (Kyle Mills) that took up the Mitch Rapp series after Vince died is OK, but not comparable. And if you ever listen to the Mitch Rapp series via audio book the narrators for Vince's writings were exceptional; those reading Kyle's books suck. Sad to see Vince go!!

Have heard from a few buddies in the Navy that if you enlist with the intention of going to BUDS and wash out, the navy chooses your rating for you according to their needs. So you could end up as a barnacle scraper for the duration of your contract
That's how it works in the Army. Saw many young men (no GI Janes during my days) thinking they were going to be the next Delta but ended up being your average combat arms soldier...or worse yet a chemical soldier or a cook. I even saw it when I attended ROTC (2 year Green to Gold program) at Arizona State (after I had served almost 8 years enlisted in the Army). Had a few ROTC buddies who thought they were all that because they were part of the ROTC Rangers program. Two in particular chose Infantry upon graduation thinking they were going to join the Infantry, go to Ranger School, get the tab, and then set the world on fire. Of course it didn't go that way...both went Infantry, failed out of Ranger School and eventually left the military after their 4-year commitment. Knowing what you want is important, but when it comes to the military you need to know what you want and know that you have a really fricking good chance of achieving all that's necessary to get what you want. The military life can really suck for those going in with unrealistic expectations. It can be a great life - was for me - if you know and accept for the most part what the future could hold.

Kim Jong-un? No, he's the Supreme Leader not a Prime Minister.

Looks like Jesuroga is listed for the cheesehead. I think people just need to calm down and see how things play out in the next few years.
OMFGeee… That’s a sure sign that he’s done.for.good. He’s not a quitter and will finish the season.

I'm pretty confident Nate would comfortably win an Iowa state title if he didn't wrestle a match before post season. Cheese head could have some tough opponents if you are coming off a break.

If stars are aligned correctly, could be rematch; Jesuroga (SEP) vs. Davino (SCE). Both seem to be at 126 lbs. Cheesehead always tough, this could be a loaded bracket.

To be in good enough shape to do the job might be different than being tough enough to make the initial selection.

This looks like it was just pulled from MatScouts rankings and has nothing to do with actual entrants. Hope he’s there, that would be a great match with Davino.
SMH at anyone who took this Tweet to mean he’s wrestling. Be better, people.

I have seen that throughout this thread and it still surprises me. I picture SEALS as like... Jack Campbell clones.
I kind if thought they might have some sort of size requirements as well….. And of course physical as in can you carry a fellow soldier if need be but they do work as teams

I admire his conviction if this is all true…… there are higher callings than wrestling at Iowa and anyone who answers those callings does so with personal sacrifice

Truly the best among us

It’s tough for big guys to be stealthy. And nevermind logistical challenges of moving groups of big guys around without anyone knowing. Bigger planes, boats, etc.

I’ve always thought small, tough and strong is the soft spot, not muscle bound big guys.

Give me a whole bunch of bull riders and you'd have a helluva bunch of SEALs, Green Beret's or Delta.

If the guy you are carrying is small, then a little guy will have no problem. I think most of the difficult things they do require conditioning more than strength - swimming 2 miles, hiking miles and miles, climbing up and down walls and mountains etc.

I hung out with the guys from BUD/S class 232 shortly after completion of hell week. Very few looked the part. The smallest guy on the team was similar size to NJ. My buddy told me he was a wrestler, highly respected and held his own. He said the big guys that people envision are SEALs usually the first ones to ring the bell. Now I’ve met many through him over the years and there’s plenty bigger strong team guys but it’s hardly a prerequisite.

Running in the sand and singing with dual tanks on your back after a very long swim.

Delta is a different animal like DEVGRU is to the SEALS (i'm sure you know all of that being an Intel weenie). David Goggins (former Navy Seal) went through the Q course but was not selected. Side note If anybody has the time, read his book. Nobody knows what they look for as they don't keep times on timed rucks etc. They do not give you an explanation of why you were cut...just pat you on your ass and send you back to your unit. Partied with a few of those guys and they are not how you'd think they would be.
I’ve read his book twice. Very rare I’ll read a book twice, but dam it was good.

His whole life is fascinating. The part where he just up and decided to try an ultra marathon qualifier w/o training is crazy. Bought a few power bars and some gatorade along lol.
Didn’t he do it by himself when others use teams?
