Nate Jesuroga?

His whole life is fascinating. The part where he just up and decided to try an ultra marathon qualifier w/o training is crazy. Bought a few power bars and some gatorade along lol.
It truly is an incredible life journey. The dude is one of a kind and defines mental toughness. Pretty good interview with Joe Rogan not too long ago. Guy drops the f bomb a lot lol but lots of great stories and words of wisdom. Think it’s fair to say the f bomb is his “go to” word. Lol

Hope you’re well Chief.

I've heard some more water cooler talk from people that are far more connected than me. Needless to say, it doesn't sound promising. I'm thinking he really is done.
I agree, from what I’ve heard he’s done with high school. I’m still holding out hope he spends the summer with his brother in Iowa City and decides to stay the course as a future Hawkeye great!

Jesuroga wrestled last night at the Cheesehead duals. Went 1-1. Just not the Jesuroga you all are wanting to see wrestle at this point. Hawks are well aware of the situation and im sure looking at other options. It's unfortunate but it is what it is. Burnout happens or choosing to just not wanting to wrestle. Whatever the case might be Nate will be fine and will succeed. Iowa wrestling will be fine and will succeed

Quite frankly him deciding now, if in fact he is walking away from the sport, does the Hawks a favor. Having that weight "held hostage" for a few years would be pretty hard on the recruiting efforts. If choosing a different path, it's best for all parties to have it done now.

Pretty much this. Take a gap year or something. If he doesn't want to get back on the mat, then "fair winds and following seas."

I am not getting why this is even being considered a big deal? Yes he is an outstanding young wrestler, but we kind of have this weight class covered. Drake is pretty darn good and has a few years left. Unless we are thinking that drake can't man the weight, or he could move up and man 33, or his feelings were hurt and he is going to leave???

Not sure where this kid Jesuroga would go and how he fit into the program anyway? 125 unlike F*** st. has not been a problem for IOWA! Best of luck to the kid, next man in, lets move on!

Yeah I also don't understand why a top ranked at his weight and top 10 P4P guy who's an Iowa signee giving up the sport is a big deal.

Absolutely right. This way there is ample time for Iowa to explore other options. If he has a change of heart and the option is still there to be a Hawkeye than great. If not plenty of other schools out there that would love to have him if wrestling is in his future again at some point.

Nate is a hammer and when you potentially lose the top ranked and a top ten pound for pound kid it is a big deal and blow to the program. If Iowa was so solid at 125 for the foreseeable future why would they of even recruited him to begin with? Umm because he makes them better that's why. Yes Iowa is always solid at low weights and a combo of Nate and Drake could be as dominate as Clark / Gilman for the next handful of years.

Are you sure this wasn’t his brother that wrestled?

Meh… With any luck, another top 10 will shite the bed and make it onto the Hawk’s radar…

CLEARLY said he is an outstanding young wrestler! Also CLEARLY said we have Drake. Drake does not appear to be moving to 133. Nate seems smallish too. Could he be the next SL??? Not sure he is in that league, but unless he was a BIG upgrade, or as pointed out it could turn into a Clark/Gilman situation(which by the way was not the greatest for IOWA as we lost a year from Gilman)!

MOVE ON!!! Maybe if true it frees up some more $$$$ for Angelo who we NEED!!!

We have Drake… And need NINE more just like him. Period.

Do you even follow wrestling?

Amen to that. And the guy (Kyle Mills) that took up the Mitch Rapp series after Vince died is OK, but not comparable. And if you ever listen to the Mitch Rapp series via audio book the narrators for Vince's writings were exceptional; those reading Kyle's books suck. Sad to see Vince go!!
I love Daniel Silva and his series with Gabriel Allon as the bad ass. I also enjoy Brad Thor and his main character Scot Harvath. Have you read either author? If not I highly recommend both

I heard he is burnt out making weight cuts. If he rides this out with Iowa isn't he more of a 133 with possibility to move up to 141 later and Drake stays at 125? I've heard from a few sources he is beginning to struggle making weight as he is in the low 130's now.

Jesuroga is way too small to ever be 141 unless he hits a major growth spurt. Even 133 would be a stretch.

A true badass doesn't need to look or act like one to be one.

While reading this thread, this is the moment where my mind switched from having the song, “my mind is playing tricks on me” to “damn it feels good to be a gangsta” stuck in my head. Both Geto Boys songs. It’s as if the Geto Boys wrote the soundtrack to this thread!

And I agree 100% with your post I quoted, btw. So do the Geto Boys!

“Real cesspool homies don't flex nuts, 'Cause real cesspool homies know they got 'em.”

-Geto Boys (“Damn It Feels Good To Be A Gangsta.”

If that lyric is indeed true, then I can’t help, but wonder if a few posters on here have nuts or not?! 🤷‍♂️

Jk jk…. Settle down everyone, I know You all have nuts or at the very minimum, ARE nuts! 🦍 🌰 🥜

At this point, not counting on Nate coming and I know the staff likely won't settle on this guy being the future guy to man 125/133, but kale Peterson had a nice win over gable porter yesterday at 133. I luv both of these guys and glad Peterson will have an opportunity to work with some of the best lightweight guys in the country (Brands, Spencer, desanto, etc.)

Looking at the dad I was surprised anyone in that family would be a career 125 or even a 133.

I college teammate of mine did grad research on the effects of weight cutting, said rates of injury and burnout go up quite a bit.

BTW the other time I mentioned this (maybe last spring) the replies I got were strongly opposed to my observation, not about the grad research but about Nate growing. I didn’t respond or debate the point cause I had no other point to make….but I’m saying it again FWIW dad doesn’t look like the guy who would pass along 125/133 genes.

Everything I have heard is he is tired of cutting down from the 130's. He is obviously growing just by looking at year to year pics of him. This would also make since if his dream is to be a Seal. Ideally he would want to bulk up instead of continue cutting weight and putting your body through that. If he comes to Iowa he will be at 133 with the possibility to grow into 141. His frame would easily allow that. He has a bulkier frame then a guy like Ayala who is much leaner.
