*******NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS*******

I'm a huge Hamiti fan and you're all wet here. Hamiti was this good last year too but was at the wrong weight and couldn't hold it for three periods. If he hadn't gassed, he would have beaten MM last year. He was that good. He didn't make a huge jump this year. He simply was allowed to eat.
You could tell when he was a freshman how much talent he had already. He has been enjoyable to watch for several years now.

And some people thought the Starocci match should be last. Holy crap I can’t believe what I just saw.
Traditionally they pick a start to feature “ the big match” at the end and just start at a weight to have that match last .

This is BS in my opinion having a so-called big match at the start then having another big match at the end this type of book ends where they weren’t well connected weight classes seemed dumb to me and just another way ESPN is ruining sports.

I like how the world’s greatest wrestler now has two NCA titles and only three finals appearances.

I thought it was executed well. They picked a great lineup order imo. I was thoroughly entertained!

Cormier was highly difficult to listen to, however.

Yeah I don’t know how things could have worked out any better. In a normal year we would have bored with a final match at 184 and everyone would still have been talking about the heavyweights. Sounds like a PSU guy who wanted to finish with his guy but PSU got 83% of the love throughout the whole tournament so they should be happy with that!😉

Hamiti was always a title threat. He just needed some conditioning. He also didn't get the healthy KOT.

Gable doesn't lose that match if he was at several other programs. He was allowed to do his own thing and it bit him. Fortuitous for osu
This. I think okie state with David Taylor will be very good going forward, but I don’t think this year is a good measuring stick. Team was loaded when he came in. Hamiti moved up a weight and that was probably a big factor with him. Was said earlier by someone who knew a minny wrestler that gable didn’t always go to practice. Maybe he was relying too much on his gifts. Give it a few years before we crown him the next Carl. They lose 1/2 their line up too.

And what’s sort of funniest about it all is that as much as they hyped gable, gable was actually pretty mellow and Hendrickson was the guy that did everything to play the crowd.

I find it hilarious that Starrocci was going for the chance to perhaps be the first and only 5 time champ ever and not only do they not give him the main event of the night, they basically make him the prelim!

I was fashionably late watching that match. I tuned in when the president interrupted him. I'm glad it was over early.

1. I'm not talking about recruiting. His guys got better this year. Basically every single one. So who cares is Hamiti was "locked in." Hamiti made a huge jump being coached by DT.

2. When they were both at 165, O'Toole beat Hamiti soundly 7-1. Yes, they were close at Big 12's...because Hamiti got a lot better this year.

3. And yes, Gable teched Hendrickson in folkstyle in 2021 and again in freestyle last year. He beat in 12-0 with 4 takedowns in 2 minutes. Hendrickson lost to Lucas Davison last year. And he just beat Gable. Just, for once, admit you were wrong!
Please quote exactly what I said in this thread that is wrong.

1. I stated an undeniable fact that OkState had 5 AA transfer and 4 were 1 year rentals. How is that debatable?

2. I said Smith didn’t leave them with nothing and I named several names and multiple AAs that were there or committed prior to DT taking over.

3. I even inferred OkState had a good tournament and that Hendrickson pulled off the biggest upset of all time. I simply pointed out that you were using a match from 4 years ago and an exhibition match from 3 years ago to act like they both made some monumental jumps. BOTH guys had made huge jumps since then prior to ever joining OkState. DT absolutely deserves credit for getting them both over the hump, but you try to paint the jump as way bigger than it actually was.

Oh, and I LOVE how my detractors try to act like I move the goalposts. The truth is your hate makes you put words into my posts that simply aren’t there. There is not a single negative thing said about DT in this entire thread by me. Not one…

Can't say I'm all that surprised. Tough to have the experiences he has and then go back to being a college athlete.

If Hendrickson stayed at air force or Hamiti at Wisconsin do you think either of them win titles last night? That's really all that matters, not some unknown metrics of improvement.

Drake is a national champion, Byrd flat on his back at the end of the 3rd. Ref calling non existing stalling and then let Byrd run for 30 seconds after more or less handing Byrd the win.
Drake got what he earned. He’s fortunate he didn’t get stalled out in SV before that final exchange even.

The truth is answering your question uses the same “unknown metrics”. If you can’t judge the improvement how can you say they both don’t win somewhere else? Now, to be clear NEITHER were at top notch programs prior. Not even close. So it makes sense that a change to a top tier school would make a difference for both.

With that said, could it be Taylor? Absolutely. My only area of contetion is acting like Taylor waved some magic wand and turned frogs into princes. They were both REALLY good at inferior programs…

Hendrickson most certainly not. Dont think. he would have had eligibility - but even if he did he would have had to keep his weight down. Aside from having DT coach him

Don’t know why people get upset when somebody points out that Gable only came back to college somewhat controversially 3 years after he left because he was cut from WWE and NFL. Didn’t they have to retroactively add redshirt years so he could even have eligibility? Year older than Starrocci even

Totally fair. I don’t think anyone is suggesting he’s got a magic wand. I don’t think he could have coached up Schultz to beat Gable for instance. But I think he certainly earned some credit. And I think he will certainly be given a lot of credit by both Wyatt and potential transfers/recruits. And that’s really my only point. Not crowning Taylor the next Cael, there’s far too much work to be done still, but he sure is off to a good start.

He took an Olympic RS last year

It was a marketing ploy to bring in numbers and until we see those official numbers come in I'm guessing it worked.

To get more eyes on it do you expect those questionable/ casual fans to tune in at 9PM for 184 or start the tournament off with that bang and try to get them to stick around to the end with what ended up being the biggest upset in 50 years?

It's about growing that sport, not just the person, which is what Starocci doesn't get. Similarly to all those pissed that Trump was there.

The NCAA finals is all over the news and social media. People that would never watch it are talking about it. Hate Trump all you want, I do, but a sitting president being in attendance is great for the sport.

While I think several matches were boring, it overall was a good event and exactly what was needed to bring some excitement to new fans.

Now they just need to get DC off the mic.

The sky is blue....and grass is green. Go MSU go!

Didn’t they retroactively “redshirt” him for the 2022-2023 season though despite not even being in school

Redshirt, unenrolled, whatever you call it doesn't really matter. You have five years to wrestle four once your clock starts. COVID 2021 exemption gave those guys six for five and then Gable got seven for five because of an Olympic redshirt. He wrestled 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2025. When your clock starts, it starts whether you stay in school or not.

And 2021 didn't count and 2023 counted against him . I know you know that just clarifying
