Gabe Arnold

Am I the only one who's noticed that Iowa had more mojo when Gabe was in the lineup than when he wasn't? He's a huge breath of fresh air and someone to rally around. At this point the coaches should punt on this season and reload for next year. Redshirt Gabe and Keuter and try your best to recruit and bring in transfers like a mother f er!

The worst part is Griffin is a 165 that moved up and he indicated he hasn't filled into the weight as well as he had hoped.

Griffin?

he was much bigger than Kennedy, his length is a big problem for PK. I think Griffin is the #2 guy at 174 in March, he may be the only guy that could take out Starfish. PK can def AA at 174

He was ready enough to defeat #11 Travis Wittlake from Oregon State and then move up to 184 to defeat then #6 Will Feldkamp from Iowa State

Yes two one point wins and neither one of those guys are going to place And we all know why wittlake early in Nov is when those where won also he would not do better than Kennedy they r making the right call He need to redshirt he doesn’t have enough offense yet

Your hilarious. Wasn’t talking about redshirt. Was responding to your bullcrap in regards to not being ready.

Could Blair2000 be a bit salty regarding Gabe because Blair has been taking a beating by Wyoming Seminary lately?
You keep thing Gabe would do better than Kennedy I’m just being honest with you I guess we’ll find out next year when they wrestle off

We have done extremely well with the recruits we have brought in. I do not completely disagree though and I have said this before, A combination of TnT with the addition of Spencer and a guy like Nolf is what's needed in my mind.
The HWC should dig really deep to try and get Nolf on staff asap, he is creative and from watching his videos I think he would be a perfect fit, nevermind the fact that it would greatly benefit Spencer to have a guy of his caliber training in IC. They have worked together on a video, know each other very well and are both like minded in their approach to the sport.

Of all the names and outlandish ideas ppl throw out, Nolf is absolutely what the Hawks need. He brings everything that’s lacking right now. I never see it happening only because tnt are too proud to bring in someone from psu. Nolf and Lee would make great offensive minded wrestlers.

Would we have gotten Caliendo if we didn't go after Franek? That would mean we should be comparing Caliendo + Franek+whoever mans 157 the next 2 years vs Chittum.
Like I already said without the gambling deal you’re not getting Caliendo because you had Kennedy and you wouldn’t have lost Chittum if you wouldn’t have went after Ferraris, nobody wants to wrestle with them. Terrible coaching move to lose a guy like Chittum for Anthony and AJ Ferrari, which may never show up anyway

Tom and Terry are too much old-school Wrestling has changed over the past 15 years. They haven’t recruiting training they have gotten better athletes bet you’re never gonna be the best wrestlers anymore by being in great shape and tough. You have to know how to wrestle and scramble.

Capable of what? None of those guys have come close to a podium.

I've mentioned PK to 57 on the Kaleb Young plan despite the fact it's not an ideal cut. However, PK strikes me as the kind of guy who will do what it takes to make the lineup and if that means cutting to 157, I wouldn't be surprised to see him do it.

He hasn't been on the podium either but I have a lot more confidence in him being an AA at 157 than any of the other options we currently have.

That's assuming he can't beat out Gabe at 174.
Pk had to cut 11 lbs for day two of the soldier salute. That weight would have placed him at about 176-177. Pk ain’t getting to 157 and if he does I highly doubt his ability to be effective. Long story short…Pk to 157 is a fairytale that will never be written. Point, blank, period.

I like Pk, both as a person and as a wrestler. I wish him well and hope he develops to the point where he can contend for a lineup position at his desired weight.

The two things are completely unrelated. He's backed up everything he said. Calling someone out and creating tension for a big matchup isn't bad, in fact it's fun. Calling someone out and then ducking is pretty lame.
Since when is an injury ducking. You sound like a whiny little dolt. Shut up. My god you psu guys are incessant word twisters.

IMO, the guys who have had the most success here are guys who came to Iowa already having well rounded technique. I don't see people gaining much beyond hand fighting after getting here. It's basic singles, HCs and an occasional double if they used one already. Spencer and Kem both had very good technical skills coming in and I don't think it's coincidence they were both not only successful but entertaining to watch.

Well then it looks like Cobe or bust for 157 next year...orrrr a fast car.

That is why Iowa needs a top notch technician and not a brawler.
You guys who think TnT were just brawlers need to go back and watch some tape. They were technicians that could pick guys apart with varying attacks. It not translating to some of our guys isn't all philosophical. Some of it certainly is but, you don't win world and Olympic freestyle medals just brawling.
I truly think the gap was closed then bypassed Iowa when competing programs got serious about strength and conditioning. In the 80s, 90s and early 2000s you could count on iowa wrestlers being in superior physical condition 80%+ of the time, and it almost always paid off in third periods.
Aside from freak of nature strength tilts from Lee (which were almost always in the first period), I honestly cannot recall the last big match we won in the third period bc of cleary superior strength and conditioning? Marinelli vs Joseph at big 10s maybe? It just doesn't happen very often anymore.
To me, the guys with varying and versatile attacks are almost always able to do so bc they're the stronger wrestler. When you're stronger than your opponent, you can move him into positions to do what you want to him. We don't have enough guys capable of that in most matches bc we're often the physically weaker wrestler.
