*****Nebraska vs Iowa (W) Game Thread 🏆*****

Kind of strange how non-competitive the games have been. The closest margin of victory so far has been 6 points with Purdue over NW. From an eye-ball test, I would bet the average margins of victory is 17 points,

Heading to the arena right now. Insane how they managed these GA tickets, but whatever. Bought a few dozen donuts for those in line next to us, we are going to have a good time.

DAMN THE B1G for making these tickets first come, first serve general admission.

I feel for you. You lost an hour of sleep and at 4:40 am CT you are heading to the arena because you don't have an assigned seat and you want to avoid being at the back of a likely multi-city block line.

I hope that you at least end up with GREAT first come, first serve seats.

You are awesome & very thoughtful, by the way, of thinking of others and buying donuts. I would then demand that you provide me with some coffee....j/k.... ;) Drinking home brewed Starbucks as I type....

And as a side note, I am a coffee snob; my wife Margaret would attest to that. I have tried several varieties of Starbucks and and other brands and there is one coffee that still is #1 in my book where I always go back to it: Seattle's Best. 32 oz of 6th Avenue Bistro is $12.78 at Sam's Club.

Have a great day & GO HAWKS!!!

Been here since 4:30 am. Met some awesome people next to us we have been chatting with. We brought 3 dozen donuts for those around us and that went over well.

Definitely sucks being in line, but we parked right next to the entrance, brought lawn chairs, and have been relaxing while chatting.

Feel bad for the kid in line next to us, he bought tickets for this game on seatgeak, and they haven't delivered his tickets yet. He isn't sure what he is going to do.

Any Stulke injury updates, looked like a nasty sprain but she appeared to be walking okay later. Go Hawks!

A great American like yourself? I'm sure you'll find a way to sneak him in with your group by distracting the ticket scanners with a few 🍩s.

I’ve got tickets for sale if he still needs some. We can’t make it today after going the past two days.

Game is on CBS. If you have an antenna you can watch it for free. In the cord-cutting world I can’t recommend going old school enough, plus the OTA picture quality is way better than streaming.

do you have a recommendation on a "bunny ears" antenna that picks up local TV channels?

What follows is the ESPN Bracketology after last night's games.

In parentheses after the team is what the team's REGIONAL SEED was on Feb 28 during the Top 16 Team Reveal.

As you can see below, on Feb 28, IF both teams had kept winning, Iowa would have faced South Carolina in the Elite 8. Now, Iowa would not face South Carolina until the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME. @EvilMonkeyInTheCloset

The 4 Regions, per ESPN, to start the day on March 10, 2024:

Albany 1

South Carolina (WAS #1 seed in Albany 1 Region on Feb 28)
Ohio State (WAS #1 seed in Albany 2 Region on Feb 28)
Oregon State (WAS #3 seed in Albany 1 Region on Feb 28)
Indiana (WAS #4 seed in Portland 3 Region on Feb 28)

Portland 4
Texas (WAS #2 seed in Portland 3 Region on Feb 28)
Southern California (WAS #2 seed in Albany 2 Region on Feb 28)
Notre Dame (WAS NOT a top 16 team on Feb 28)
Gonzaga (WAS #4 seed in Portland 4 Region on Feb 28)

Portland 2
Stanford (WAS #1 seed in Portland 3 Region on Feb 28)
LSU (WAS #3 seed in Albany 2 Region on Feb 28)
UConn (WAS #3 seed in Portland 4 Region on Feb 28)
Virginia Tech (WAS #2 seed in Portland 4 Region on Feb 28)

Albany 3
IOWA (WAS #2 seed in Albany 1 Region on Feb 28)
UCLA (WAS #1 seed in Portland 4 Region on Feb 28)
NC State (WAS #3 seed in Portland 3 Region on Feb 28)
Oklahoma (WAS #4 seed in Albany 1 Region on Feb 28)

Colorado dropped out of the Top 16 (they WERE the #4 seed in the Albany 2 Region on Feb 28).

Preliminary line? Did I see -16ish? I’m not gong to predict a score, but I feel really good about where this team is at, and….

After watching the whole game last nigh, even though CCs shot is still off a tick, she is close to an epic shooting performance. She had 2 or 3 shots that rimmed in, all around the rim and out in the 2nd/3rd quarter alone.

Story from the Minneapolis Star Tribune:

Caitlin Clark's 28 points, 15 assists lead Iowa into Big Ten Championship game at Target Center

The Hawkeyes dished out 30 assists as a team in the blowout victory over Michigan and will face Nebraska on Sunday for another conference championship.

ANGELINA KATSANIS, STAR TRIBUNE
Iowa guard Caitlin Clark plows past Michigan forward Chyra Evans on her way to the basket in the first half of Saturday's Big Ten tournament semifinal game at Target Center.

Business as usual, as legendary Iowa fan @EvilMonkeyInTheCloset would say.

That's what Caitlin Clark was saying Saturday after she and her Iowa Hawkeyes teammates had dismantled Michigan 95-68 in a Big Ten women's basketball tournament semifinal at Target Center, breaking open the game in the second quarter and turning it into a rout in the second half.

That put the second-seeded Hawkeyes (28-4) into Sunday's championship game against surprising fifth-seeded Nebraska. Iowa will be playing in its fourth straight title game, looking to become the third team in tournament history to win three in a row.

Ho. Hum?

Well, honestly, no. It's never that.

"It's special. I was walking back to the locker room with Gabbie and Jada," Clark said of teammates Gabbie Marshall and Jada Gyamfi. "I don't know how to do this tournament any other way. I pack for three days, pack for four days. That's just what we do. I feel like we always play great basketball when we're coming here."

Clark didn't wait long before giving the raucous Iowa fans in the sellout crowd a reason to cheer. She scored 28 points with 15 assists, four rebounds and two steals. She had a double-double by halftime. By the time she sat in the fourth quarter, she had either scored or assisted on 60 of Iowa's first 81 points, and she emerged from the game the all-time leading scorer in tournament history.

If Clark had — by her standards — an off night in Friday's victory over Penn State, she was on Saturday.

But what made Iowa so good Saturday — and lethal — is that Clark was part of an ensemble. The Hawkeyes had a tournament-record 30 assists on 38 made field goals. Three other players were in double figures — Hannah Stuelke was 7-for-7 while scoring 16; she appeared to turn an ankle on her final field goal, but Iowa coach Lisa Bluder said everything would be done to ensure she could play Sunday. Sydney Affolter had 12 points, eight assists and seven rebounds. Martin scored 13 with six boards.

"Man, I just thought we had some beautiful passing in the second half," Bluder said. "Just sharing the ball. It's so much fun when we play like that and everybody is getting involved."

Iowa wore down the Wolverines (20-13). Michigan hit its first six three-pointers while taking a 25-17 lead late in the first quarter. From then until halftime, Iowa doubled-up Michigan 34-17, then the Hawkeyes outscored Michigan 44-26 in the second half. They scored 54 points in the paint, 25 off turnovers, 20 off the bench, 16 on the break.

Laila Phelia scored 21 for Michigan, Jordan Hobbs 14.

"Iowa is a great team," Michigan coach Kim Barnes Arico said. "We came out in the first quarter and able to match their pace of play. We weren't able to score with them later."

And now, Iowa will try to avenge a loss at Nebraska last month. A presumed No. 1 seed in the upcoming NCAA tournament, Iowa would like to head into it with another conference tournament crown.

And Clark did what she does. She made 10 of 19 shots, including four of 11 threes, and had half her team's assists.

"I'll take my line any day of the week," she said.

Said Bluder: "It's just like the bigger the spotlight, the more she's going to show up. It's mind boggling when you think about it. Everybody's defensive plan is to stop her, and nobody's been able to figure out how to do it."

Those Hawkeyes fans will show up Sunday to watch their team. After all, it's what they do.

Honestly the way she walked off, and was jumping around later, don't think its too bad. Probably spent some time in the ice/water bucket....

Streaming Update: I signed up for the one week free Paramount Plus with Showtime which includes streaming the game. Now I can binge watch a bunch of stuff I’m not familiar with or interested in for a week. I wish I had kept track of the money I’ve spent and the hoops I’ve jumped through to watch Iowa women’s basketball this season.

Pretty much any will do, in most cases. If you live a long way from transmitting towers, rabbit ears may not be enough. You can find the location and distance from your house at tvfool.com.
