True. This has little to do with athleticism. This is, as it has been for the better part of the last 6 weeks, mostly about the six inches between their ears.
Get in his jersey with smaller guy, and he can't shake them. Iowa guys outclassed athletically.
The best thing about this is that there isn't another game on right now. So if someone wants to watch an NCAA tournament game right now, they have to watch this Iowaaah beatdown!

Not all of them. We played okay defense the first 10 minutes, then gave up.
Couldn't imagine worse play from our seniors. Teams learned to play us physical the last two months, and we collapsed. Weak weak team.
False hope was a waste of time.

Who is telling these guys to leave their man on the perimeter? They aren't even putting a hand in Villanova's face?
UNI would not beat this Villanova team. That said, yeah, Iowa guys are soft in Man to Man.

Defensive effort just totally embarrassing. When a team plays defense as tight as Villanova is playing you have to be able to take them off the dribble, Iowa can't.
One of the few teams in the tourney with four senior starters and tournament experience and they're getting ran out of the gym.. Next year will be worse
I have seen such bad Defense from the Hawks under Fran in must win games...that it is now obvious that he cannot come up with an effective game plan with the people he recruits. This is just unacceptable on all levels. But, the sad thing is.......I expected exactly this to happen today.
Fran realized he was leading in number of TO left so thought he needed to at least be even. He needed to call a TO with ten minutes to go in half and just bench the seniors. They have packed it in and started planning their graduation parties and weddings
When's the appreciation threads start for these seniors. How could we as Iowa fans deserve this crap. I don't mind getting beat but when there is no effort on defense this is sad. fran has to be feeling like sh11t. Gesell is the worst point guard in america hands down not even close. Play the first 5 min with the starters if thing don't change bench them all. Do we even have a strength coach on this team.
Agreed. That's a big part of their problem on the defensive end.
At least make it respectable in the second half. Show some effort. The outcome is already decided, step up and show some heart.
Exactly. Love love Woody and what he did for Iowa. But I'm looking forward to Cook and Kreiner at center. A new era with better athleticism.
IOWA does not suck. Please people and all you nay sayers. Iowa has limitations and it just has happened. Villanova has won more games over the last 3 years? than any other team. Great game plan. Wright knew man to man, his guards could take every Iowa guard off the dribble and there is no shot blocker for Iowa. After the burned us, then Iowa guys play 3 ft off them and they get clean looks for 3's and these guys can shoot, unlike Iowa guards.
Plus pressure Iowa guards/perimeter and Iowa folded
Fran needs guards, guards, and guards.
Yeah, people claim Gessel is a great defender, but I don't see it. Getting abused.
Not to mention that Stanford had the REAL Heisman player on their team, and he just made us look silly.
Nova has a lot more talent than we do, but nobody you'd say "he's the best in the country, hands down." We're making them all look like Wooden candidates today, though...

Yes. This game says WAY more about Iowa than it does the opponent.
