Eierman

He was definitely forcing shots way more than usual and gassed himself out fighting hips on those shots.
I get that everybody has some form of "strategy", but when that "strategy" is actually not to engage in the sport you are involved in, then you've lost me. That goes for Iowa too.

If you can't or won't engage then the rules have to be created that says you will or you'll get DQ'd or stalled out. That clearly isn't happening. That goes for Iowa too.

These guys are all on DI scholarships for Wrestling. If you can't engage someone in the actual sport itself, then why are you out there? If you think you can't beat anyone in particular, then try your best to get better so you have a shot at it. That goes for Iowa too.

None of this discussion favors Iowa in any way, shape or form. Get in there and wrestle and let the chips fall where they may, across the college landscape.

How so, he graduated from High School in 2019 according to the roster I see.

Was he held back for 5 years in High School?

Not commenting on what age he will be at graduation nor do I care but he graduated HS in 2018, grey shirt in 2018/2019, red shirt in 2019/2020 and wrestled as a RS freshman in 2020/2021.

Was Lee not engaging? I mean, Lee outshot Eirman 16 to 9.

Since age is being brought up in this thread, didn't one of the announcers mention that daton fix was a 22 year old sophomore?

Edit: Google says he was born March 11, 1998 which would make him 23.

And next year he will be a 24 year old soph.

It is amazing, but really...who cares? Seriously. It isn’t like these opportunities are limited. Same rules apply to all.

As they should. No one games the system like Penn St. Michael Beard will be like 27 when he graduates. It's insane and illogical. 99.9% of these athletes will never make a livable wage wrestling, but they continue to erode valuable years in the workforce by gaming the sytem.

Well said. Spoken like a pure capitalist...

There weren’t 25 real shots in that match. Not sure what you’re trying to accomplish by making up that number. Both wrestlers were trying to score the entire match and Lee came out on top.
I agree that both wrestlers were trying to score. But some posters here claimed Lee was "running," "Eirman shot more than Lee," and etc. Just want to correct the record straight for an honest discussion.

In addition, the total number of attempted shots by both wrestlers was not "made up." These shots included attempts to the legs, duck unders, throw-bys, and etc. I didn't include head fakes (of course) and counters. What's your interpretation of "Real" shots? The ones that get the wrestlers into a tie-up?

Half shots to the legs are not real shots.

You said running...do you think carter is “running” when he’s wrestling anyone with a pulse? I sure do. Serious question. Because I think nick lee wrestled every match he’s ever wrestled in. He was a bit more cautious than usual against eierman but he was there to win. Carter...hmmm. I think he will end up being great but I think he was very fortunate his side of the bracket broke the way it did and leaving him with a fresher set of wheels come finals.

You have a link to his birth date or something that indicates his age? Why is this any of your business?

Fine, because Eirman did the same thing. To make you and board happy, I will adjust to your "real" shot standard and went back for a replay, which I'm very happy to do ;-). Here are the number shots that led to tie-ups (regardless of scoring):

Eirman vs. Lee:
3 to 2 (1st period)
1 to 0 (2nd period)
1 to 3 (3 period)
0 to 1 (SV)

So the "real" shots total for all periods were 5 to 6 in Lee's favor. Happy now?

I didn't say anything about Starocci vs. Kemerer. But I don't don't have a problem admitting that Kemerer took more shots. Kemerer is an experienced veteran and a great wrestler in his own right, so Starocci can't be playing his game. But running is a bit much.

Why is that a problem for you? It's a birthdate. He didn't post his Social Security number or his internet password or bank account numbers. No indecent private photos.

A birthdate. Shhhheeeeesssshhhh!!!

You made a claim that would require a birthdate in order to prove.

Not that long ago, members of this board were poking fun at some PSU wrestlers for their age at graduation, but they were graduating at 24.
Umm, he came here to argue with the Iowa fans not you PSU clowns. Go to your own board to argue with him

Is his birth date a big secret or something? Very strange that you would get all worked up about something so trivial. He will be a 4th year freshman next year. It isn’t like that’s an unknown.

Eierman will have a 1 pt advantage every time against Lee as Lee won't take down and won't ride Jaydin hard. Lee will want to win it from his feet meaning he needs either a short time takedown and ride out or two takedowns to win. Doable, but a somewhat narrow path to victory over the long run. He pulled it off Saturday, so hats off to him.

The caveat is Lee cannot get taken down. If Lee gets taken down, you can pretty much count on a rideout and possibly RT. That's a 3-4 point hole and he's not clawing out of that playing the takedown game.

Of course, the Angel Rivera factor could come into play and then all bets are off.

Lee is a tough kid. Give me Eierman next time they wrestle.

Scorned ex? He left Mizzou because he said Iowa was the place he felt like he could win a national championship. Well, to do that, he's going to need to learn how to score from his feet.
And, if Misery wants to ever win a team thing, they"ll need to hope for the best in womens' sports -- never happen in wrestling.

Maybe they don't see it that way. Some older folks may be able to work 36 years and retire younger with pensions and full social security. Other younger folks may end up working until 70 to retire on their own savings. If I was in college today, I'd see no real urgency to enter the workforce.

Alternative view. You have decades to work a job, but only a few years to compete in the sport you love.

I guess it depends on what you think the purpose of life is. Is it to work? Or is it to do the things you love?

Actually No. I did not make any claim that would require a birthdate. Some other poster might have, but I didn't. I just responded to you questioning someone else about having a birthdate. Go back and read the thread and you will see your mistake.

Love Eierman and wish he had won. Lee is a good aggressive wrestler and fun to watch. He had a good plan and wrestled to it. With another year in the room polishing his leg attacks think Eierman brings his game up a level. Like his chances next year against anyone not named Yiana and even with him Eierman has a pinners chance.

Yep, Lee is really good and has been for several years. Thought he would cruise to a Big Ten Title but Pletcher took it to him and beat him at his own game.

If Yianni goes 141, that weight class is LOADED, and he's the favorite until someone beats him. Eireman and Lee are both certainly capable.

My question to u 23, are u changing your handle to 24?
Not sure yet but likely at some point. Jrod65 slammed me with the ol' Ted Knight "well, we're waiting" dealio from Caddyshack, so well played by him.

I tried seeing if I could just edit it, but seems like I could change the avatar only and I like my boy Clint so no dice there. Plus I'd have to completely re-do my d'bag/Ignore list, and that's extensive, so not cool. I'll get around to it one day I reckon, or I'll croak in the meantime and all the snowflakes around these parts can celebrate.

I believe you can change it over the phone if you call Rivals customer service. No idea on the number.
