***Hawks @ Purdue Game Thread***

This is what watching a program built on toughness and defense versus a program trying to build itself on pace and athleticism looks like.

There are times when Fran's teams look like they are creating a defensive identity (a good one) and magically, with the pressure then released from their offense, their offense thrives. And then they revert to trying to have an offensive identity.

Fran needs to hire a defensive guru type coach and give him a major role.

Were you saying the same thing last year when we were sweeping them?

Fouls are tied at 7-7. Couple questionable calls but you get those every game.

Of course they are. It is typical B1G officiating. Make sure a team is no threat to win, etc...

Then at the end of the half and/or when the game is over then even it up. Iowa didn't sniff the bonus in the 1st half. Purdue was in it for a while.

2 min ago iowa was 5-5 and PU was 2-2 in FTs
Of course PU doesn't need to go down low to get fouled. Just hit open jumpers.
Refs are fine.

I don't know what to tell you. Iowa is losing because they can't play D. Has nothing to do with Refs or foul trouble
Can you show me where I said that Iowa was losing because of foul trouble or the refs? I'll save you the trouble. No you can't, because I never made that claim. When it was around a 20 point game, I said it would be closer if our bigs didn't have garbage fouls against them sending them to the bench, and if Swanigan/Haas hadn't been allowed to get away with murder underneath the basket. Those are factual statements. Do you understand now?

I don't think the 3/4 court is getting what Fran wants on defense. I'd probably get out of this now and go to the 1-2-2.

I can't fault the game plan but Purdue's guards are killing it.

Sorry. Must have gotten you confused with someone else that whines.

Been saying this since year two of Fran. Again, there are stretches where they seem to galvanize around D, but they revert to trying to win with O. College on down you win by being able to execute with great consistency on the D end.

This, in turn, takes pressure off of the O end and all of the sudden O becomes easier.

Going to have to get back in this thing with defense. Translation, we're screwed!

Is Kinnick 4 Prez Ted Valentine?

Just trying to even out all the over reacting taking place here about officiating.

Refs make mistakes. Players make mistakes. Iowa is making way too many mistakes. And we knew that coming into the season it would be growing pains. To nitpick on officials is just being a poor sport. We're losing. Move on.

Great wake up call for our young team, and for Jok as one of its leaders. I really like our guys and think this will let them know how great their effort and attention to detail has to be--especially at the defensive end.

Iowa was down 37-20 at half last year ... at Purdue. Won that game. Not saying that will happen tonight though.
I meant lowest point total for a half. I'm pretty sure Alfraud coached a 12 - 15 pt half for us. Ugh. That clown went and got himself the best PG in college basketball and now he's ranked in the top 5. Vomit!

So when we scored nearly 50 in the second half at Purdue last year and then put 83 on them in Iowa City, you were claiming we need to play defense like them? That's an odd argument but hey whatever works for you.
