Iowa Hawkeyes (17-9, 9-6 Big Ten) at Northwestern Wildcats (19-7, 10-5 Big Ten)

BOTTOM LINE: Northwestern hosts the Iowa Hawkeyes after Boo Buie scored 21 points in Northwestern's 64-62 victory against the Indiana Hoosiers.

The Wildcats have gone 12-4 at home. Northwestern scores 68.0 points and has outscored opponents by 6.1 points per game.

The Hawkeyes are 9-6 against Big Ten opponents. Iowa is 3-2 in one-possession games.
_____________

The Hawkeyes are a much different team on the road, scoring and FG% declines significantly. I’m guessing NW 71-65.

NW is jacked for this game. 1st sellout of the year, their students are enjoying a growing rep as a Duke-lite home crowd creating a super hostile environment for opposing teams.
Look for them to single out the mccaffery family for some ugly chants. They were admonished by Collins and the NW president for their obscene chant aimed at Miller Koop of IU on Wed.
NW is on a roll.
Hawks have taken 9 in a row from them.
C'mon Hawks..get ready for physical play, bad calls and howling cat fans...for the roar!

PREVIEW

The last time these two teams met, Iowa prevailed over Northwestern 86-70. Northwestern followed that loss with another double-digit defeat, getting thrashed 68-51 by Michigan in Evanston. At 15-7 overall and 6-5, it would have been easy for the wheels to come off Northwestern's season at that point. Instead, the Wildcats are riding a four-game winning streak into Sunday's rematch with Iowa.

The first two wins of the streak were narrow road victories over Wisconsin and Ohio State. But their most recent wins have been two of their most impressive of the season -- Northwestern closed the game with a 17-3 run to upset then-#1 Purdue in Evanston, then followed that up by hanging on for a dramatic last-second win over Indiana after opening up a 19-point halftime lead. That four-game winning streak has seen Northwestern rise to solo second place in the Big Ten standings.

The first game between Iowa and Northwestern ended up a blowout, but the final score was a bit misleading. Northwestern led for almost the entire first half and held a narrow lead for the first few minutes of the second half as well. Iowa regained the lead for good with a Payton Sandfort pull-up jumper at the halfway point of the second half. Iowa's offense exploded after that, outscoring the Wildcats 29-14 to turn the game into a laugher.

A significant part of that late Hawkeye run was Sandfort going absolutely molten-hot, scoring 14 points on 4/5 shooting (3/4 from behind the arc) and adding a pair of rebounds and an assist to boot. Sandfort has been far more effective at home in Big Ten play than in road games, though; he's averaging 12.4 ppg in league home games, with double figure scoring in five of eight games, versus 6.0 ppg in league road games, with double figure scoring just once (a 22-point outburst against Rutgers). Iowa is 6-0 in Big Ten games when Sandfort scores in double figures and just 3-6 in games when he's held to single digits.

Not a fan if Indiana but northwestern fans were completely classless in that game. Was enjoying northwestern having success this year but fans have changed my mind so would love to see us shut them up. Collins and Fran might be the best coaches in the big at this time.

That woman ended up getting silenced for her shrieking, she was annoying AF until they did that. I ended up muting a game because of her.
They haven't learned how to win yet. Winning doesn't guarantee class. I can imagine her shrieking though. I think Connor feeds on negativity so expect him to play tough as usual if not tougher.

Very pumped for this one. Got a good Sunday Funday planned capped with some good bourbon.
Iowa vs. Oklahoma State wrestling match @ 3:30 BTN
Iowa vs. Northwestern basketballl game @ 5:30 BTN

pretty good Sunday afternoon/evening viewing for Hawk fans.

Spencer Lee on a historic mission in his last home match - should be an electric environment at CHA.... many other good matchups and there has been some bad blood between the IA and OSU.

And how sweet it is to get a road win against an opponent on a roll and helll-bent on getting revenge. May it be a buzzer beater. Let's go!

Going to be a very tough game to get a W because of the aforementioned comments in addition to NW being a good BBall team this year.

So, the mild cats actually have fans? A bunch of nerds!

Need really good guard play tonight IMO.
That's an impressive stat. I always thought we need the bench scoring from Sandfort and Patrick as well.

What exactly have the northwestern “fans“ been doing? They have always been dbags, so not surprising.

I like the match up, Philip struggles a bit with really big guys that are skilled. He has improved a lot.
Also need Tony to have a good game. Guard play will be important.

The next game is Wed Feb 22, 8 pm, at Wisconsin

Upcoming weather looks like crap in the Midwest. In Iowa City its going to be raining all day Wed but in Madison there's a chance for a winter storm (1-3 inches of snow and ice, and 32 degrees).

As goes Tony Perkins so go the Hawks in this one. If TP has 18+ Hawks win or at worst lose a nail biter to the end.

N'w only scored 64 points in both of their last 2 home wins (over Purdue & IU).

Iowa put up 86 against them on Jan 31.

Whose style will prevail?

its amazing how Northwestern is currently looking at a 5 or 6 seed in the NCAA tournament
