*****Maryland vs Iowa Game Thread*****

I’m sorry, but this strategy of trying to throw it over the down low defender’s head makes zero sense to me. That is a huge problem with our TO’s. The inside defender has position on our player and we have this coached strategy to throw it over the defender’s head to try to get points. Why do our players not fight for position so this doesn’t have to happen? It’s like this every game!

Welp, this team is correctly ranked in the 20-25 range. They just make too many turnovers to do any better than that and I've seen enough to see that this is just who they are. They haven't been able to reduce the number of turnovers at all. It's a shame too because without those, they are probably a top 10 team. Certainly top 15.
Not sure they are that good IMO. Jenson is really a one trick pony with her offense to-date. And, defense is not that good as well. Iowa may have hired a good assistant coach. This team is not progressing.

They've lost two games on the road to really good teams and Maryland could be a final 4 team this year. But thinking about it some more you are probably right about the ranking. They are just going to have too many losses to keep it given how good the Big 10 is this season.

I’m gonna be honest. It’s her first year but idk if Jensen is the answer. Way too much emphasis on post feeds which is what most of their turnovers are. Too much standing around and watching wait for a post pass. Also, I haven’t seen her call a single good inbound play yet. We don’t have one good inbound play?

I think she will get better and I'm going to give her the benefit of the doubt at this point.

That said, your point is spot on. The ball gets to the wing and there are three girls standing. One with the ball, two without. There is a screen on the low block and then looking for the entry pass. There is nowhere to go.

A lot of offenses are very free flowing and not prescribed (like the men) and Jan seems to run some very definitive sets. The problem is nothing is working in those and seems like there is no plan B.

No more throwing the ball inside just launch 3s in 2nd half
They aren't shooting that well from there either. Jensen may be asking them to play too fast which is what is leading to so many terrible passes. They just can't turn the ball over like they have. She might need to figure out a way to slow the game down a bit for them so they can be more careful with the ball. I'm not an expert on what the solution is but it is clear at this point that the issues we have seen are not just going to correct themselves by keep on doing the same thing.

Pathetic first half effort by Iowa. How many lazy passes need to get picked off before you realize it isn’t working?
Probably 100 turnovers so far this year trying to get it into the post. If that isn’t enough to emphasize trying something different then it’s not going to change. JJ may not be the answer as a head coach.

Refs are letting the game be pretty physical, so the post pass is a bad play when 3 are pushing and shoving inside.
I don't think I've seen a game this Physical yet this year.
Wonder if they will call it tighter in the 2nd half.

That would be a tough decision should she fail.

We will spend all next half coming back need to play almost perfect

We aren't winning but I would love to see them just win the second half and lose by less than 10. Limit the turnovers too.

We also need to be done with this archaic 2 first half foul rule. When your team is getting taken to the woodshed, you need your best players in.
