I get that angst is the norm, but what loss was really some underperformance? Both Peterson and Block are freshmen coming off major injuries and weren’t exactly the highest level of recruits. I get that you want more, but expectations may have been artificially inflated there.

After that, the Teemer injury isn’t something you plan for. So, it comes down to Kueter. I was hoping for more, but I came out of the match more remembering how good Bastida is on his feet than Kueter not being that good. This is the same guy that beat Hendrickson 12-7 last year, so I am willing to cut Kueter some slack for now.

With that said, Iowa is still really good at 133, 149 and 165-285 and hopefully they can add 157 back to that column by NCAA’s. The sky is still up there and is in no danger of falling…

Ben has more skill, he's just not big enough yet. Goes back to what everyone is saying, there really needs to be a 220lb class.
Just stupid, what kind of logic makes the next jump from 197 285?
Idiocy
Or he could just quit bouncing back and forth with football and finally grow into the weight class.

125: D. Not ready for primetime.
133: A. Tough opponent, good win.
141: D. See 125.
149: C. Don't be happy to win like that.
157: N/A. Not gonna victim-blame, but ya gotta stretch and have those muscles warmed up and loose.
165: C. Two unnecessarily nerve-wracking matches in a row.
174: A. Fought hard for the tech. More Kennedy please.
184: A-. Shoulda had the major, but fun to watch. He's a stud.
197: A. Carroll's gameplan was to keep it close, and Buchanan got the major anyway.
285: B. Batista is too much for Kueter, who--sorry, I'm gonna say it--doesn't look like a U23 world finalist.

Kudos to Tom for putting Kennedy and Ferrari in there tonight, and the sharp eye on the 149 penalty points. His comments about 125 & 141 were essentially, they gotta man up, and that's accurate.

B1G+ gets a D. Wrong names. Incorrect season records. No riding time displayed. "Winner by fall" graphic at the end of Teemer's match. Douchey announcers (I had to change to Ironside audio after 133).

Overall, some disappointing moments (#1 being Teemer's injury, of course), but an entertaining dual with a few bright spots. Let's hope for the best with Teemer.

He’s world class at 215 and I doubt football would keep him from growing. He can play DE at 265
He was playing LB. Which make sense to stay around the 220ish range. Are we even sure with roster limits next year he'll have a spot on the football team?

Was hoping to be surprised by Petersen if anything I’m surprised how bad he looks. He’s terrible off bottom. Ryder I had bigger expectations. Won Fargo was 2-1 against Nasir Bailey but man he looks rough. Also terrible on bottom, bad gas tank, and has 1 shot a blast double
Im not surprised. Didn’t get any matches as redshirt recovering from ACL surgery, then makes a cut I didn’t think would be possible. He needs to eat and lift to get some muscle on that 6 ft frame, too weak and poor stamina. Drake may not have great year, but if he gets dedicated in the weight room all off season he should have the horsepower to finish those shots, and maybe even have a little top game.

agree. it’s a long season. we have seen freshman take early losses and end up having a great season. no need to get down on the young bucks. plenty of time to iron out the bottom issues

Unfortunate that all of the wrestlers are as good as they'll be at the end of the year.

Petersen wasn’t but block was a pretty big recruit. #2 in his weight class and I’m guessing top 20 in the class. Not as big as guys like Ferrari or Arnold but I expected more. I’m sure the cut is playing a factor, hopefully he figures it out because he’s looked rough so far

Expected more from Kueter

Yeah, you could say Block was on the fringe of being a top recruit. But, like I said, he is coming off a major injury that pretty much makes this his true freshman season when you consider how much time the injury set him back. Hell, in many cases that injury could put him even further back then where he started when he first got to Iowa.

If his body is truly more suited to 149 or higher, he has two major obstacles to get past before even considering training and lack of experience…

Kueter being an AA this year will be a win. Bastida is a step above him right now.
His first 2 take downs he out horse powered him. Ben puts on 15 lbs and keeps getting stronger in weight room, he wins. Actually, if he was better at finishing that near cradle he wins. He should practice suckering guys into near and far cradles with his length. Batisda being a former fast 197 was very quick also. Many thought he would beat Kirk for championship last year. Then choked hard in ncaa’s. Don’t forget how he easily handled Hendrickson at the end of last year.
