NCAA Finals Thread

Nope. My Dad and I decided to make the drive back to PA after watching 5 for 5 in Detroit.

Were you there? I could have bought you a beer to help console your self-admitted 🤏 problem.
Bud, I don’t think you can use your EBT on beer. I’ll buy.

no... we have to change the way we wrestle period.... PSU is the biggest rival at the moment...but the blue print is out on how to beat Iowa. Hang back and let them come to you. eventually they will give you an opening to counter. Look at this tournament... hell look at last year. 2021 and the team title, is the exception to the previous decade.
Do you really think that Nick Lee, Starocci, or Brooks are counter wrestlers?!? All 3 controlled the mat and pushed the pace last night. Lewis had his back to the OOB the whole match and wasn’t dinged.
Dean is a Rob Koll product, I saw no real difference in him this year. Maybe his scrambling improved, definitely not his offense. I'd say he would have the same individual result if he was still at Cornell.
Except he won a friggin National title….wrestling UP from his ideal 184 weight class. Sheesh!

Exactly. Most Hawk fans liked Cenzo. His matches with Marinelli were awesome. Nickal was a douchbag. Nolf seemed like a likable guy as well. Lee and Brooks seem like good guys too
Yep, I like Cenzo, Nolf, Lee and Brooks. Don't care for Nickal though. I don't have any bad things to say about PSU kids. Most of them are just like our kids...busting their asses to be the best they can be and to bring home the hardware. And like others have said, they - and their coaching staff - sure know how to adjust their styles as needed to win when it matters. You can hate em but you can't argue that fact...

I know it seems like that is Penn State's blueprint but that isn't totally true. They had 9 qualifiers and two classes did not perform to expectations. That meant they needed a lot of bonus points and they did get them in the earlier rounds. The key was then of course to focus on advancement. They were well coached, conditioned and primed to peak for nationals. Yes the talent is there for sure, but the mental toughness and physical conditioning allowed them to choose the pace and style. They have the wrestlers who can score bonus, but also have the guys who can win close matches against wrestlers with equal ability. That is why they crowned 4 champs last year 3 of whom were slight underdogs. No one would accuse Taylor, Ruth, Rethorford, Joseph, Nolf, Nichols, etc of not letting it fly. Sanderson does a good job of adapting a wrestler's skill to what it takes to win and sure top talent makes that job a lot easier.

Penn state could have won this total solely with their five champs even if they only won each meet by decision .

My point is not about how PSU wrestles… its about Iowas inability to adapt or evolve. Its not just PSU beating Iowa… look at the quarters from this year… hell look at the previous years… asside for maybe Lee and a healthly Kem and ADS…. Nobody fears the other 7. Until they decide to “go for it” guys will play defense and continue to win late…

For starters he had not been in the post season since the year he got 2nd in 2019? I'd say it's possible he improved a lot in the 2 years before coming to psu. Also 197 had a lot of even talent this year minus Ferrari who Dean wasn't going to beat but none of those other guys stand out as being especially talented. Then not to mention he should not have even been in the finals if not for getting gifted by incompetent refs.

Ask the only one I'm going after about his history of "being an adult" on one of the PSU boards. Mom jokes and all.
You pick fights over there, lose them. Then cry to the mods like a little bitch to get rid of the mean Iowa fan. Go back to your echo chamber.

Garbage?! Sure wish you had to face people when you talk you keyboard warrior. We all know PSU is going to be tough to near impossible to beat for the foresseable future. But you are a complete loser for calling Coaches like the Brands garbage. You were obviously a JV nobody who has no life. God I wish you could meet one of our wrestler in person. Would be fun to watch you get piss pounded. My 53 year old ass wouldn't mind a piece of you. After 5 years of D1 wrestling and 33 years of coaching Im sure I have one last go in me.
Might as well make this a fundraiser for the new facility!

when can we expect to see mvp reefing a college match? He clearly is better than the the reffs the coaches picked to be there. Seriously let me know I want to come watch.

As much as I hate to say it, this is spot on…
Except they were straight up better, on top of that. Disappointing. I don’t care what anyone says, penn state beat us like a drum and their wrestlers “lucked” out when it mattered. Out-coached, out-recruited. I see no end in sight for the excuses. Rby was hurt, Nick Lee was hurt and I’m sure the rest of their wrestlers were dinged up too, but those guys won titles. Excuse are for…yeah.

CStar had/has a broken hand, which he broke in late January and requires surgery, but he decided to tough it out and get it addressed after the tournaments.

I believe it. Most are hurt this time of year. It’s about who has the metal fortitude to get it done. Cory Clark, Spencer Lee. Push through because the other guy is never 100%

Why, because they score? I could never get the Iowa understanding of stalling. Iowa guy pushes guy OOBs over and over without ever attempting to initiate any offense while the other guy figures out ways to score offensive points. In the Iowa Hawkeye fan's mind it is the non offensive guy who is getting screwed because the other guy who actually scores offensive points is somehow the guy stalling.

The biggest difference between the 2 teams has been recruiting. Iowa recruits really well but there is a big gap in the overall recruiting between the 2 programs.
Come on dude. Spencer, DeSanto, Eierman, Marinelli, Kemerer, Warner and Cassioppi.

Iowa certainly is not lacking in high end recruits. They don't develop their talent nearly as efficiently as Penn State does, but they get talent.

No because your athletes run away on the Matt like a little bitch. And when the opposition shoots and missed you jump on and lay on them for as long as you can.

Simple. Iowa doesn't recruit black wrestlers. Prove me wrong.
This. Right Here. Has to be the funniest MOST STUPID thing I have ever read/seen in my life. Where do you people come from? And by "you people" I mean is there like a DumDum land somewhere for imbeciles like you? Iowa Doesn't recruit "black" wrestlers? Usually, I'd take this opportunity to list all the "black wrestlers" who have either gone through Iowa successfully, are currently at Iowa, or will be at Iowa. But what would be the point in that? I'll leave it up to you to do that research on your own. But when it leads you to MY son, (and I promise it will lead you to MY son) I would prefer you address his color correctly as "double chocolate, mocha-almond swirl". But when he puts on the Black and Gold, please refer to him as "Black Mamba".

Don't ever change Coach Double Chocolate Mocha-Almond Swirl Phil.

And as a favor, when your Son gets to Iowa, could you remind me to call him Black Mamba, I'm old and the memory isn't as good as it once was. TIA 🙂
