*****Oklahoma vs Iowa Game Thread*****

I disagree. Athletic? No. Could he take over a game? No. But he took care of the ball, distributed well and had an amazing shot.
I said he was a shooter. He was NOT a good ball handler.
If you mean distributing the ball to Luka then Ok. But that does not make him a good PG. Shooter? Absolutely!

PS I'd take him this year over what we have.

Yeah, it’s always been so confusing as to how he gets the minutes he does. Just doesn’t do anything well on the court - he’s just….there….

His game has the ability to be good and a tough matchup for people on the perimiter with bigger 4s. He can shoot and he can drive.

The problem is when those things don't happen he's a a liability on defense and in the glass.

I hate saying this because I'm sure he's trying, I'm sure he's working hard but there are too many guys who just don't "look" like they want it on defense. They did in the Creighton game but it's just not consistent.

Again, I'm sure that Fran preaches and pushed defense all summer but I'm just curious as to what the message actually is.

Glad it took me nearly an hour & a half to do all the clean up from the noon TG meal, because it would appear I did not miss a thing in that last 20 minutes of game action.

Now do everyone else. Pa Sandfort, Pr Sandfort, Perkins, Bowen, Dembele….

Payton had 12 and 7 boards shooting 50% from the field but 0-5 from 3.

Pryce was 2-5 for 5 points and 3 rebounds.

Bowen was 3-8 for 7 points and 3 boards. Had 2 turnovers and 1 steal/assist

Dembele had a rough game but only shot 1 time. Had 2 points, 3 boards, 3 turnovers, a block.

Perk had the worst game at 1-10 shooting. 6 points, 4/6 fts, 6 rbs. They credited him with only 2 turnovers but I swear I remember 4. Two throwaways out of bounds, passing to a guy not looking that bounced off him and resulted in a dunk and a travel? Maybe not on the last one.

Pat was 1-7 for 2 points and 3 rebounds with 1 turnover.

Its amazing how exact opposite the two major sports' coaches are at the same university.

Kirk Ferentz is in desperate need of a good offensive coordinator (& to actually step back and let them run their own offense).

And Fran McCaffery is in desperate need of a good defensive coordinator (& to stop vastly prioritizing offense over defense).

Sometimes it’s just not your night shooting the ball (see Creighton today). Hawkeyes shoot a “normal” percentage from 3 and this game is tight and maybe even a win. Many were wide open and just not falling.

I’m encouraged by out-rebounding the more “athletic” team by 9, doubling them on the offensive boards.

The 14 turnovers were a big problem. A lot of those seemed unforced.

Looks like a lot of guys had a pretty poor game for the first 38+ minutes. No one played well outside of Freeman and to a lesser extent Harding.

I'm pretty sure most teams defend Patrick with their 3s.

That's why he can't ever drive around a defender and he has no inside game to counter it.

If he would play the 4 he would have some mismatches although most teams go small at the 4 now anyway.

LOL. A double foul on that. Clown show
Well, the explaination was even worse. They said that if the two refs called it on two different guys, they have to call it a double foul. That may be the worst BS ever. They overturn each other all the time.

How do they not pull the third ref in and ask him his call so the right call is made instead of a double foul? And it was a flop. How does the ref down low not see minimal contact and drop? You don’t barely touch a 235 pound man with your backside and he falls over.

Play the kids. They are bring effort at least. I don’t know know what our staff is watching to roll out the starters we’ve been playing.

Yeah, with this team you know that their shots have got to fall to be in a game because of their lack on Dee. Matador defense allowing easy buckets. We had alot of bunnies that just would not go down.

Well, we’ve played 2 power 6 teams and we’re 0-2. Dominated today. That was pathetic. I was pretty optimistic after the Creighton game but then they got drilled today. PMac disappeared as usual against a tough defense. Perkins seems to have regressed. Sandfort couldn’t guard me. Just terrible.

Jacobsen said the ref told him they did screw up and it should have been called a block on OU.
Weird.
Watching ISU vs VCU and I fear we will suffer a similar fate vs clones.
There are no big 12 teams that look like Iowa.

Fran will not hire a defensive coordinator he is all offense

It's amazing with PMACs size he doesn't have any inside game

No he said the refs told him that each ref called it a different way, so they HAD to call it a double foul, which is not true. How many times have we seen to refs call something different, and then they get together and change the call.

Actually after that comment you cited there was a timeout and Jacobsen said the ref came over a second time and admitted that they screwed up the call but too late to reverse.

NOT good. A team effort. Going forward, it is crystal clear that the starting front court cannot play defense, all 3. Having all 3 on the court together for most of a game is NOT a winning formula. Fran better figure this out soon. Still haven't concluded who should be starting at PG. Tony can be great or awful, as we saw in this game.

Freeman shows a lot of promise, just hurrying a little too much on his shots at the basket. Otherwise not much good to talk about. I can't tell how much of this is OK being pretty good (certainly they are very athletic), or Iowa just not being good.
