******UNI vs Iowa Game Thread******

Panthers (5-5) come to Carver fresh off a lose to S Dakota St and like Iowa have lost 2 out of last 3 games.

UNI is led by Maya McDermott who can be streaky from three.

I like the hawks to win ugly, 78-62

UNI plays good defense, but I don't see them forcing Iowa in 20+ TO's. Their best post Boffeli is out for the season, and Emerson Green hasn't been able to play much lately. Shateah Wetering has been playing with a wrapped right shoulder and left knee. She plays hard and will be motivated, but doesn't put up much for numbers. Hawks should win by 15+, maybe more.

I am anxious to see how they handle a high scoring guard like McDermott.

Also just curious if anyone knows what the team's schedule is now. Usually they all go home after the last game for a few days. But this year there are still five days until Christmas and nine days until their next game. So will they stay here and practice, then go home for a few days the middle of next week?

Don’t be fooled by UNI’s loss to SDSU - that is a very good team who is likely to be seeded higher than the Hawkeyes come tournament time.

SDSU, is easily one of the 10 best Mid-majors and their best player is 6-2 Brooklyn Meyer from Larchwood Ia, but if the are seeded higher than Iowa by then we’ve had a very mid-tier season 🤷‍♂️

Sadly, the gals don't seem to need to be playing a good defense--too many of the TO's could happen against folding chairs as they are bad/sloppy decisions.

Yep. We are long overdue to see some improvement in that area. At this point, if we aren't seeing hard cuts and crisp passing then we are in trouble. This should have been corrected about a week after the TN game.

Maybe. SDSU has already defeated two ranked opponents (#21 Creighton, #20 Oregon) and took #16 Duke down to the wire. Also clobbered Wisconsin by 20+. They play #6 Texas tomorrow

I expect the Jacks to run the conference table. As they do so, they will rise in the polls (they have been just outside the top25 all season). Finishing 29-3 (assuming road loss to Texas) with ranked wins puts them as a 6/7 seed IMO. May be the top mid-major team this year.
